Who owns the best.......................

Who owns the best Evo  RACE bike in OZ ?

By way of race wins and reliability.

This is about the bike ( make and model ) not the rider ( s )

I'll have a go!   Rather than nominate an individual bike, because that's just too controversial, I'll choose a make and model.

Every club seems to have one or more YZ250 G/H that dominate the Evo race results, so that's my pick. As for reliability...  well it's a Yamaha, they're like the Camrys of the dirt bike world.

Of course, race results have more to do with the operator than the bike, but that goes against the theme of the thread so I won't mention it... oops just did.

Harsh!  :o  :D

Dunno how many races he's won, dunno about its relaiblity, but Magoo's CR must rate highly among the prettiest/trickest Evo bikes around.

nah, i agree - can't go past a solid yz250g or h for a budget priced evo rocket.  me lurves the cr evo but suspects more fragile.

250g/h = everyman's racer.

Thanks Nathan, and with the right rider it is certainly a fast bike. One thing it isn't is fragile. That bike has been raced for 3 seasons now and other than a collapsed rear wheel it hasn't had a spanner laid on it. Maybe if I did lay a spanner on it the wheel wouldn't have let go.

Thats a tough question Ted, and yes I know you did say Oz, but I have thought about your question for over here in NZ and over the years for race wins and reliability, it would have to be a '79 Honda CR250.
If at first you dont succeed, give up and drink beer

DJ...is a 79  CR 250 a EVO bike?  can any bike race in the EVO class?
Is there a list of year model / capacity bikes to determine classes they can run in?

Sorry guys just first year in VMX
Bike should be finished in time for CD 5

Ted, anything that came with (and still has) drum brakes, air-cooling and non-linkage rear suspension is an Evo bike.

Depending on the race organiser, they usually run capacity classes for the Evo bikes. Typically, the 250s and opens get plenty of people fronting up, but fewer 125s.

I should add that I don't disagree with the statement that the YZ250G/H is one of the better Evo 250s out there. I wouldn't trade mine for anything... except a better YZ250G... or some riding ability... ;D

I'd say that the 'stand-out' Evo bikes would be the 79 CR250s, 80/81 YZ250/465s, and the 81 Maico 490s, and maybe the RM250/400N/T, but I think the original question was about specific bikes.

To qualify for EVO your bike should be air cooled, drum brakes and non linkage rear suspension so yes, the 250 RZ is an EVO bike.
