Cool bikes those Stormers. I reckon the AJS Stormer is one of the most underrated bikes in pre '75. If you set 'em up with modern electrics and a good legal reed setup the old Villiers Starmaker engine can cut it with just about every other engine in the 250 class. The 410 needs bit more technical love than the little one but they too can be made competitive.  They are as light as a 125 and actually had close to 6" of rear wheel travel a year before Maico introduced the LTR model.

Husky Pete told me that an AJS Stormer won the Pro class at Diamond Dons Saturday Pre '75 meet.Was the rider Doug Grant Pete? If it was he's been the man to beat for 20 years. He won the pro class against Pomeroy, Lackey, DeSoto, Bill Grossi and many more at Sandhill Ranch back in '94 and again in '96...all on his Stormers. He's a nice fella as well.

Thanks 67Husky...Looks like you've had a grand old time.  8)
Those AJS Stormers are popping up a bit lately on the vintage swapmeet and ebay,notice them more and more nowdays.
Can't wait to see how our Starmaker skoots around the track..
ps My husband will take me to Americia one day  ;D
cheers A

quote;bit of trivia ::
The Starmaker motor came out around 1962.
AJS adopted and upgraded this motor to fit into the Stormer series 1968 thru 1972.  Only difference is inner clutch hub and top end, trans, crankcases, ignition are common to both.
As long as your not using the AJS Stormer top end, its pre-65 legal.

At CD8 I really missed some of the exotic names that didnt attend from the pre75 era.
While away the Collie Farm event was held over here in the West the same weekend...
Thanks to Bethanie and the vmxwa.com club for the pics .....cheers A

Thanks for the links, but read valves are not allowed in UK pre74 so there is no info available. I was thinking of going twinshocking, I have a rolling chasis for a 77 model and am looking for a way to extract some more go and if somebody had already done this, it would be nice to know  what they did?

You perhaps need to talk with Nick Brown at the AJS headquarters in UK as link above...
Is it a Starmaker engine ??

No it is a 370 Stormer, not much point doing it on a Starmaker as they would not be eligible for pre65 or pre74and are only 250cc
