Chain prep /lube

I have been using the "old school" chain lube where you boil the black stuff and put the chain in it...last lot I got was Silkolene..can't seem to find any now..Someone put there know if it is available anywhere in OZ atm ?

I use plain wheel bearing grease -- NOT high temp grease for disc brakes -- the thick black stringy stuff for old drum brakes -- a bit hard to get now -- wash chain with spirit -- get really clean -- and then put in tin with dollops of grease and then boil on a camp stove -- for 5 minutes -- then hang up and drip "dry" back into the tin.
Probably a crapp way with crapp grease and will be a better product commercially available but it works for me  ;D

Graphite powder mixed with vasoline.

Gippslander, go to a Brit bike shop and get liquid grease for gearboxes (the Indian Bullet still uses that).

A year or so ago I bought a tin of "Putoline" brand chain wax from the local bike shop. Boil it up on a stovetop, drop clean chain in, remove & dry on a piece of wire gridmesh.

best i have tried outboard 90 gearoil in small amounts and if rideing in sand like we used to on Fraser lots of oil messy on a road bike but all i would use on my bikes.

I used to use gear oil, clean chain, warm it all up in an old electric frypan and then  let the chain drip dry when cold, but these days I use Chainsaw bar and chain lube in a squirt can on me trail bikes and race bikes, bit messy, but works well,
