« on: April 03, 2011, 03:56:37 pm »
Why did this happen bought cam levers they are opposite the back one to big and front to small for the camshaft?

Got the wiring loom on and in the right spot.

And heres a question where can I get the right white cable ties for the handle bars I have a heap of the black ones I have been using on the frame but on the handle bar they are supposed to be white any ideas where to find them??

google the part number in "" to find somewhere that stocks them... I saw a few possibilities..

"437-83936-01-00"

or you could get caught up in the ebay hype of NOS and pay $139 for them:

Frosty they are not white, they are translucent, you can buy them for $1.50 USD each from RE-MX, look under repro XR75 parts, they are a OEM honda part ;)

Looks like you are going to end up with a good result there Frosty.

looking forward one day to seeing the finished result in daylight :o

Brake cams;
I have never closely inspected a GT80, but I did put a tee-shirt on backwards once.
Any chance the front brake cam is in the rear brake plate? and visa versa? Just a thought.

Gday Mick, I thought of that but the cam that comes out the smaller one will only go in the small hole and the bigger one comes out of a bigger hole in the brake plates the cams are two different sizes and the two cam levers I have are both opposite of what I need one is about 10mm diameter and the other about 12mm diameter.

Betric post updates on your bikes would love to see them my nos loom is on and it is so easy to just plug in when it is all colour coded the indicators on the rear stick out a mile.

I am just waiting on some nos bottom handle bar holders to arrive and I can mount the speedo etc etc and I am waiting for some original grey cables the front brake and clutch have bought them just waiting for them to show up.

How is this too I needed a nos headlight being a sealed beam and got into a bidding war hadn't seen one on ebay for ages ended up costing about $110 then the week later another came on for $30. :-\

Keep in mind that the USA headlight inserts will most likely be for RHT (right hand traffic) and will have the cut off on the left instead of the right, meaning that if you use it here, the beam will shoot right up the middle of the road into oncomming traffic and blind other drivers. Having said that if your not riding at night it doesn't matter and the 25w or whatever it is insert is not going to be too blinding anyway. Have a look on the lens for an arrow. If theres no arrow then the insert is universal with no cut off so it can be used in any country. I see a lot of imported road bikes from USA and people are still riding around with the RHT headlight inserts.

I don't think it is ever going on the road might buy a number plate for it, that is a valid point though I will keep that in mind with my RD250 as I will buy it heaps of nos gear. ;)

I have heaps of left over parts does any one know where I can buy bulk amount of nuts and bolts that don't have some sort of print on them?

Hey Frosty,
Try Haymans Electrical or Ideal Electrical for Translucant Cable Ties. Heaps of different size and width available, at two fifths of f/all price. Also Dick Smith sell them. Are YZ80 cam levers the same as GT/MX? Just a thought as the break plate looks similar.
I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

Yes I think they are the same but it is just that shaft size wether aus models were different for some reason py80 cams are the same too I think but there are two sizes I believe.

Bought two more on ebay that looked correct size in the pics here is to hoping.

I may have some old ones maybe in my old parts I will have to search though a pile of junk there alot of parts that were not good enough even if restored for my gt80.

Most new branded bolts have numbers or names on them. If you want completely blank hex head bolts which are zinc plated, then go see your local bike shop and order some MCS bolts. They are really cheap and come in  bulk packs. Go to www.mcsonline.com.au and look in fasteners section

Other option is buy new ones with numbers, spin them in drill mounted in vise or lathe and file off the numbers but then you will need to get them re-zinc plated again.

Frosty if you want nuts and bolts for your yamaha's the same as OEM you can buy them from a guy called motodad2 on ebay in the states, he sells in bulk kits, I will email you with a link to his auction, all my GT's have bulbs in the headlight lens not sealed beams, rear brake assembly is the same between GT & YZ80, the rear hub casting is the same except GT has 32 spoke holes & YZ has a 36 spoke hole hub, front brake assembly is a bigger dia on the GT80 (32 hole), the TY80 uses the same rear wheel assembly as a GT80 but the TY80 front wheel has 32 hole 16 inch rim and the same cast hub as an early YZ80 but with a smaller front axle dia and 32 spoke holes, YZ80 has a larger axle hole and 36 spoke hole hub and rim

Yeah thats right, like most bikes back then, Australia had semi sealed with globes and USA had sealed beams.
If you want the correct head light frosty i would try this mob http://www.yamaharetrospares.com/ They bought all of Yamaha Pitmans old stock and if anyone in Australia has a NOS light insert it would be them. Just be armed with part number before you ring. They should have  alot of NOS stuff for your bike.
