OK short version of story. I'm told this bike was raced here in 74. I have ridden this very fine motorcycle and it's not your average bike this thing has been polished it's has a very much works feel to it everything works perfectly the motor is faultless.
The story goes it was imported and raced by some gun at the time in 74. Would this mean it can be raced in the pre 75?

The 1974 360 "Mikkola" Husqvarna is a good looking machine indeed. The bike soon became a victim of warranty issues and even worse, was difficult for riders to ride at a competitive level.

With a frame number starting with ML-000, it should be a '75 CR360 GP "Mikkola replica" ('76 CR360 frame numbers start with ML-6000 apparently). I think it is pretty hard to tell the difference between a '75 CR360 and a '76 CR360, because there wasn't very many changes made between the two models. You would probably have been able to buy a CR360 in late '74, but that wouldn't make it pre '75 legal because it is still a designated '75 model .

What is the actual differences between a '75 and '76 360 Mikkola replica?
That bike definately isn't a '74 production model.

Husky Pete would know this better than me. But from what I have been told, apart from the frame numbers, there is supposed to be some different gusseting on the '76 frame and also maybe different castings for the lower fork legs.

I think you may be right about the "BS" there was no one of note racing a husky like that in 74 that I can recall

There's no way that bike ever raced in 1974. As Husky Pete says, it's a '76 model but even if it was a '75 model and it had been bought and raced in 1974 it'd still a designated '75 model and therefore ilegal. I reckon you've been around long enough to have known that already though Mick. The owners bullshitting you .

J'ean managed to win the NZ pre-75 title on one a couple of years back, but I think that's largely because there's no sheepstations on the line in NZ vmx. They've pretty much got the fun/ride/beer/grin ratios sorted out over there.

Firko its been amended and is now called classics and the husky is no longer elidgible for the classic class.
Jea'n is now racing a 74 KX 450 and is leading the class going into the final rd 

However i notice that in the points its still called pre 75

The 76 360 GP have as Mark said, have frame numbers starting at ML-6000 the engine number should start with 2055-xxxx, should have a olive (as in purple) tank, motoplat ignition small crankshaft end, gussets at the bottom of the frame main down tube as the 75 had some issues with the 75 frame cracking, different pipe, footpegs with square holes, different fork lowers and damper rods.

The 75 360 GP should have a maroon tank (brown colour), femsa points ignition large crankshaft end, different pipe as in two right angle bends coming out the header, (the 76 360 has a curved header from the outlet to the top straight section), the foot pegs were the older type with three raised holes.

There are not that many differences between them although the 76 is a bit mellower in the power band. The frame numbers for 75's start at ML-0000 and the engine number should be 2045-xxxx
In the GCRs 75 360GPs are not eligible for pre 75.

Is that Peter Worrall's old 360? His old number was 55.

The bike has been setup very well by someone at some stage it's not your average bike.
