How do I tell what model my 250 is?
« on: March 28, 2011, 10:31:46 pm »
OK, so it's a road bike, not dirt, but I thought you folk might know.
Last year I bought an '81 SR250. I recently bought a new needle for the carby but the bloke who was going to fix it for me says it's not the right one.
In 81 there was a 250H and 250TH (i think) How can I tell which one mine is??

Need the first 3 characters of the frame and motor (3Y6)

All 81 model Yamahas are the "H" model. The letter denotes the year but not all letters used, 80 G 81 H 82 J 83 K

Take out the old carby needle ( assumed it worked) and read the number on it and get another one, piss easy if it s a muk, little more effort if a keihen, but still no rocket science.

ta
according to the site I got the needle from (bikes n bits in the US) it's the right one, but the mechanic bloke reckons the one that's in it is better, so he's left there.
No drama, just a curiosity
