Looks easy....
Lots of subtle differences to cause problems:
Cross patterns, Offset of nipple holes from centre line (may be different for different width rims)
Different spoke lengths used for conical hubs(and often spoke diameters too),
Angle and clearance of bends in spokes to suit hub and rim.
Offsets of hub flanges from the centreline (usually to align sprockets or clearance for cush drive)
Angle and clearance of dimples & nipple holes pre-drilled in rim to suit original application.
Eg: Does the first dimple to the right of the valve stem hole point upwards or down?
