QLDs Wyaralong Trail Bike Facility looking for 500 riders to test noise!
Posted: Thursday, 17th March, 2011 : 11:53 AM - - 1,376 Reads
As part of the overall Master Plan for the Wyaralong Trail Bike Facility in South East Queensland, Motorcycling Queensland, Australian Dirt Bike Adventures, Invert Management and Moto Solutions as the operator need accurate noise levels of what the park will achieve when it is fully functioning.

Until this point detailed computer modeling of the topography of the land with varying levels of noise on rough numbers of the park have been the only guide.

As good as that looks on a computer there is only one real way to get an accurate reading, and, that is the most fun way!

Steve Sommerfeld, Invert Manager said, "We have a cap of 500 riders to come and join in on Ray Buchanan's Australian Dirt Bike Adventure's organised trail ride day which will be hosted on Sunday, March 27th. We will be measuring the noise levels throughout the day, and the only way we can do that is by having very enthusiastic riders coming and enjoying themselves to help in the overall plan of what we hope will be Australia's best trail bike facility.

"Since we were announced operator of the park only a month ago, we have been feverishly putting together our plans to build the park, and of course there will be a lot of work to go into it. For the trail ride, we will have 2 trail loops (Senior and Junior), Natural Terrain Motocross track, Junior MX track and a PeeWee track.

Sommerfeld cautioned on riders expectations of the facility which is still partly in it's development phase.

"Because we have just started construction, please be careful! Also, please use your imagination in what the end product will be, we have only just started building courses and we will be opening as soon as we can in late 2011. The property really is a blank canvas for now, but you will have the opportunity to see it from the start and when it opens as the finished product," Sommerfeld explained.

I have attached the Entry Form which details what you will need to bring if you are interested in it. Please fill out the entry form and email/mail it back to the address given on the Entry Form. If by Thursday next week you haven't sent it in, simply bring the form with you on the day.

yeh ive been and had a look i think its a bit of a scam ma licence required number to be displayed on bike.its not a race day its supposed to be a fun day of riding at what is going to be a park for the public to help the organisers to determin noise levels.it would cost me and my 2 daughters $170 plus food and fuel for the privelage of helping them out it may be for a good cause in the end but i think the prices are a crock of shite.i just can't see why an ma licence is required for a non race day and $44 for an adult rider is a bit steep also.its a trial day for noise $20 per rider seems a fair price,i would hate to see what prices are going to be when it opens for the public.cheers gary

The MA license is a recreation license that gives you insurance cover in case you get hurt.  It's the run on from when Daryll Petch started FOHVA.  There was a problem with insurance for venues as no one wanted to insure for recreational mc activity and most property owners were too scared about getting sued.  FOHVA found an insurance company that would insure mc events.  But in his own words the policy was wound up that tight you could never claim on it.  It was a catch 22 to enable recreational mc events to continue.  He then turned or sold it onto MAQ they used it to get all the recreational riders to sign up and bolster the coffers with out having to provide anything.  Whether the policy has changed under MAQ to one that you can claim on, I don't know.  But to run a recreational event and be covered by insurance you need the MA rec license.  Most of the organised rides in QLD require it. It just covers the landowner and the organiser from getting their arse sued.
There are a few who don't, and just run the risk and hope that dirt bikers will be gentleman and lick their own wounds.

does the rtcb rides have insurance? i don't know much about the insurance side of things.since most of my riding is just in the bush i've always looked at it if i come unstuck its my problem.still think the prices are a bit steep maybe drop the price to $10 per rider  and  pay for day licence with 500 riders needed they'd have to be able to cover costs.is a ma licence going to be needed when the park finally opens?thanx for the info cheers gary

The adverts all wrong-makes it look real inviting  8)  until you read the fine print on the entry form.. :( :( ..
Could it not been run as a club day or a come-n-try,,so much money to go for a ride is killing the new places trying to set up a ride park etc...
There are properties out there now running there own events without MA involved....
In the whole of WA we have three ride parks and the Trail Club group has been trying to implement a trail ride plan for the last three years.  :P
I really take my hat off to the people behind these ride parks/areas.
cheers a

Why can't place's like this just have a piece of paper (disclaimer) that every rider sign's , that they take full and utter responsibility for their own actions ! if they want insurance they find it  themselves (someone would do it), cutting costs to landowners fee and day license (if needed) ! too many hands too feed the other way !

rover park northern nsw best family place to go best prices.4wd are completely seperate from the dirtbikes its like 2 seperate parks they also welcome youngsters on quads wich not many parks allow.my family went for a weekend family of 6 with 5 bikes and 1 quad $90 for camping and 2 full days riding.most parks charge for 2 full days but you have to be out by lunch on the second day.and they just don't cater for bikes and 4wd they also have plenty of fishing bushwalking giant waterslide and a few other things would recommend it to anyone fantastic place to go.cheers gary

Agreed it is a business! but if the average joe can't afford the day/weekend out for maybe him / his kids (in a GFC), it could wither on the vine before it even gets going - bad for business ! rover park sound like they have the balance right - lower cost more numbers  :)

it may be a business but construction hasn't started as yet i was up there 3 weeks ago and all it will be is trails that are already there that haven't been maintaned no different from the places i go now accept it will be legal.and if they get the numbers they want which is 500 bikes even at $10 per bike + ma licence fees i don't see how them numbers wouldn't make a profit.they wont be paying for land for the day as that land is already put aside for the park.if the prices they are asking for the noise level tests are an indication of what the park fees will be i think i'll be riding were i was today and have been going to for the last 2 years.been going there nearly every weekend for the last 2 years or so never had a drama from police or council rangers.cheers gary

The thing is, there are plenty of cashed up dirtbikers that think it's cheap.  It's not blokes in 30 year old utes carting 10 year old bikes.  It's familys in $100,000 suv's towning $150,000 vans loaded with half a dozen brand new bikes.

To put it in perspective if your daughter wants you to take her into the Brisbane CBD to go shopping, it will cost you $47-$67 just to park your car.

As far as I know RCTB don't have insurance.  But I could be corrected on that as my information is only hearsay.  Although hearsay seems to be gospel on the internet.

Exactly mate... go to one of Ray Buchanan's trail rides and they're full of cashed up trailriders on brand new bikes. He caps the numbers at 500 riders and it's always full with people missing out and i don't hear anyone complaining about the prices.
The MA licence is needed for insurance otherwise it'll end up closed like Blackduck Valley was as soon as someone gets hurt and sues.
Rover Park and places like that don't have the quality tracks like Ray's events, you get what you pay for.

Well said Bernie and Johnboy.....theres alot of time and money that goes into setting up a track and then maintaining it, also this place will get riden to death so he will have multiple tracks set up so they can monitor any damage and allow tracks to "rejuvinate" and be repaired because with the State government and probably the greenies keeping an eye on it they will be looking for any excuse to shut it down. Ray's a smart man so good luck to him.
