Falta air shocks on the back of the EG.What does that stand for?Speciaist frame manufacturer?where from?
His name is
Egon
Gustaffson from Sweden. He was one of a shitload of innovative framemakers in Sweden during the sixties. The special frame market in Sweden was even more alive than in the UK or US during that time due to some protectionist import taxes designed to protect the local manufacturers (Husky, Monark, Lito, Lindstrom etc). The canny Swedes got around it by building their own unique racers, often using British running gear. The EG that Alan bought has some impressive history behind it and it's noted to be especially light.
A few of those innovative Swedish pre 65 frames are now being reproduced, especially the SOH frames made by Sune Olsson. He's currently remanufacturing his 1963 designed frame for use by Indian Royal Enfield engines for a low cost entry into the sport. I'm going to order one for my Triumph 500 engine in June.
