I beleive its mostly the rear end of the frames which are slightly different.
The 74 has the shocks mounted a bit further forward.

The main difference that I'm aware of is that the '74 model has forward mounted rear suspension a la '74 Maico. Below is a shot of Jonesys genuine '74 showing the swingarm and rear subframe and dear old Frank Melling testing a '73 back in the day. I'm fairly sure everything else is similar between the two models.

The two models are light years apart. Frames are totally different.
Bottom frame tubes, swingarm, rear seat tubes, top tube, airbox, shock mounting and angle, forks etc etc.
As lovely as the 74 looks, my favorite is still the 73. Ok, I am biased, but I do love them all.
Be prepared to pay a premium for them though. Also budget for a good going through. It may say "race ready" but don't believe it !
Money pits they are, but on full song they are superb. I always run mine on good old R40. My engines have been reliable for many years.
Most engine sizes were available in 73. For me the short stroker is the best. Revs to the moon, and still outdrags the later 2smokes to the first corner.

Hi,

You are dead right about them being a money pit,  BA, BSF Cycle thread, Whitworth, UNF, UNC, Metric coarse, Metric fine, are just a selection of the thread forms that I found,
There is a good website,Thumperpilots, for CCM's particularly to see the model changes from 73 onward ,although most have been modified from their original form.
CCM Britain can still make you a new CCM if you're are serious about your VMXing
cheers and good luck

Just found the listing ........
If it goes for less than $10k AUS then you have a good deal. It looks to be all there.
Yes, CCM Britain (or Performance Engineering Services) can provide all the parts. The frame pic I posted was a new one Mark built for me a year or so ago. It is exactly the same as my original one. The original fork yokes are now available, but made thankfully from billet alloy ! No more shattering ! Same goes for the hubs. Don't even think of welding them.
I have just made a pair of fork sliders as per oe CCM. Not too much work, but looks loads better than Betors or spirious Jap ones.
The 90/90 bore stroke makes it a 580. Maybe a bit much for a 73 if it is built correctly.
I would love to buy it, but shipping to the UK would be stupid money. I keep telling myself "I have enough bikes".
You can never have enough ........

Yeah my Cheney runs all of those threads, I heard funny story that old Eric got  a cheap job lot of metric bolts from the RAF so just started using them. BSA motor has all the threads under the sun.

Regarding price I was told that some of the pumped up methanol Cheneys have AUD 30K in them. Price up NEB stroker crank, cast iron barrel, clutch, 3 speed box, interspan ignition, Omega piston and you are getting into 5 figures in anyones money quite rapidly.

Funny Rod Spry is just describing welding up a set of CCM hubs in the latest Classic Dirt Bike, he reckons they will be Ok for parading.
