Hi from Canberra.
« on: February 12, 2011, 01:14:59 pm »
Hi Im Sarah, I operate most of the computer side of things - such as joining forums and my Partner Phill operates the important things like restoring and riding the IT465!

Phill's always been a fan of bikes - we went from owning a 250cc dirt bike, to an XR650R, then onto a one of a kind Joey dunlop replica SP1, then a harley street bob which was eventually traded in cause we needed a car. So about a year ago Phill picked up an old IT465H which he has slowly been restoring. Infact Ive just come across it here, before we purchased it:

Its almost ready for rego Phill is just chasing up all the wiring and electrical components needed as it didnt come with any of this... but not long to go now :)

She's not all original some things we had to settle on. It came with original pipe and expansion chamber - but we sold the pipe it was not in good shape and still have the expansion chamber just not on it. Plastics and seat are original... Restoration was delayed about 6 months, we had just taken it to Phills brothers workshop for some TLC we he got bombarded with work and was not able to do the bike for a while.

When we first bought her home:

lots of work was put into it, but Phill started pulling it down and restoring it before I got many good before shots. Here is before and after on the swing arm:

Plastics before - they were badly scratched you can’t see because he already started sanding them, but the headlight surround had smiley faces and words scratched into them (by a child I assume). Phill spent a while sanding and polishing them up before painting on the yellow. The front and rear fenders were a bit too broken and bent so we found better ones and polished them up:

Bike stripped and freshly painted:

Tank ready for stickers (we found the original stickers but they were such bad quality they tore and blistered within seconds so we settled for some different ones of better quality:

New pipe on (I think its an IT490 pipe and a YZ490 expansion chamber – will have to check with Phill):

Don’t really have many more before / in-between pics so here she is, a few things to do before rego. It’s been a long 12 months but well worth it.

Oh and this is the bike alarm

Hi Sarah & Phil,

Welcome and congrats on a sweet IT465!  Plenty of good riding in those hills around Canberra. I am originally from the ACT but ended south of the border about 2 years ago.

Welcome to OzVMX Sarah and Phil. Great IT, very well done. Have you joined the Yamaha IT forum too?  http://www.yamahait.com.au  and  http://www.yamahait.com.au/forum/

I agree re Classic Dirt 8, the CD events are superb. There will be a few of us from Canberra venturing north. I'll be taking my IT175 and my mate Gerard his 1980 TT250.

Where's Phil planning to ride the IT?

Hi Graeme yeah we are members there - been getting alot of help there with the restoration :) Phills just purchased the last bit sneeded to get it all wired up and ready for rego :)

Just going to be a run about bike - I know it seems a waste but no dirt for her. Road only :) It sure will turn heads though - and maybe blow a few ear drums :)

Hi Sarah and Phil,
welcome to the forum. Really nice job on the IT, it looks a treat. I also bought an IT on the weekend in the Batemans Bay area. It's an IT125G and I also bought a NOS exhaust for it from the same guy. It is for my Daughter to ride if I ever get it restored.

Regards Stan.

p.s. I hope you don't mind the thread hijack but here's a pic of the 125 when we got back from our 2 day 1800 klm round trip to get it.

Yes Doc, I picked up the TS90 from the same guy (a forum member and an all round nice guy) I think it is a 71 but to be honest I haven't checked the plate or numbers yet.

Sorry Sarah and Phil back to your welcome and beautiful IT465.

Stan.
