im thinking about bidding on that bike, has the wrong forks on it and the seller claims to know nothing at all about the bike. says it was given to him by a late relative.

bit of a gamble..

It could be a 1975 MX250B? I have a 1976 YZ250C and looking at the photos there are several parts that suggest a MX250B.

The rear monoshock swingarm is flat side square tube ( MX250B, YZ250B ). The 1976 YZ went to round tube monoshock swingarm.
The CDI Unit has 8 wires from it ( MX250B ). The 1976 YZ has 6 wires.
The plastice are White ( MX250B ). 1976 YZ are all Yellow.
No air canisters on top of the fork tubes, but most have been taken off.
I think the engine numbers are similar starting with 509- for both models? Davey Crocket could comfirm the difference.
It does have a YZ250C tank. Well right colour and decals.
I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

the VIN (frame?) number he lists is 509-001427  (he says in the ad that it's got matching numbers) - That's MX250B not YZ250C...

I reckon thats what VMX is all about waiting on the part, getting the right price, anticipation of knowing if that make/model/part of bike is going to come again for sale (they always do in time).  :P
Glad we've got a good knowledge base on here  ;D
Best wish's in your search.
cheers A

i looked at that one too Steveo...
appears to have XT500 front wheel & forks. can't quite make out the triple clamps but if the bars are rubber mounted then they'd be XT too.
the rear wheel looks like a DT360a set up with the rubber cush drive sprocket.
not a problem for either and a fair price i reckon 8)
"flat bickie"

yep, i knew the front end didnt look right but i had no idea what it was off. I have a correct set of tripples and forks lucklily from a swap meet.
The price seems ok, but it also looks very very tired and corroded!

Don't turn your nose up at the DT400 front brake - heavier than standard but good for DT  ;) :).
