So I've decided to man up !!
« on: February 11, 2011, 09:18:04 pm »

and get a Cr 500 :o :o

I have a few Q's for the Honda guru's.
First and foremost....waterpump. Are the cases still avaliable for '89's ?
Does anyone do white side plates ? (thinkin' about going all white.)
Is there any problems with this model that I should check out?
Hope to out and about for Rnd 1 QVMX. :)

I think the 89 has an alloy cover so no cover rotting away ( fairly certain).  The things are bullet proof. No issues, plenty of parts. Ebay is your friend. Have fun!
Plastics.

Yeah,
After some further investigation, it seems to be rock/stick damage, as opposed to corrosion.
When I was first looking at it, I checked the rads and noticed they where empty, I queried this and the seller said they had devconed the waterpump area, so I instantly assumed corrosion, but it appears damage has been done to the pipes that exit the top of the pump that the rad hoses attach to. The gear oil is clean, no custard there which is a relief.
Frame is freshly painted, and looks to be a half decent job, and topend is brand new.
Besides the waterpump, the only other bits it needs are Fork and shock rebuild and linkage kit. New wheel bearings, brake pads and a rear rim, some new plastics and away we go.

These 2 sites are my main source to keeping the 'nasty one' going
www.cr500riders.com
www.bannedcr500riders.com

You have to sift through some of the typical American bullshit but generally pretty good info. ::)
You'll have join up cr500 riders to get access to the info whereas if my memory serves my correctly you can lurk in the shadows
at the banned site.

I'm taking the old girl to do the Finke this year for the first time, oh yeah just turned 41.

Cheers
