84 ktm mx 250 parts book
« on: January 31, 2011, 09:25:38 pm »
hello all ;D
i am curently in the process of restoring a mx 250 and its coming along nicely

of my many hours of internet scrolling for parts/info  i figure there isnt a parts book for 84 models

found a owners manual but a parts guide would be more useful

is there any punters out there that can point me in the right direction?

also it seems the magnesium clutch cover has the common corrosion problem

the bike came with a spare cover but doesnt fit  i think its for a 85/86 model

are the covers still available or unobtainable?

any info appreciated and ta in advance ;D

You can repair the case most of the time. If you cant find anyone to do so I might be able to help.

Sold my 86 KTM for that waterpump reason. Was so dissapointed with it.
Fix it , leave it sit for a while and the problem comes back.
Later I figured that if you simply mill the pump right off and make a new plastic one bolting it in the same position , with a seal in the case, then you would never have this problem again.
Radical I know but I rekon it would work a treat. :)

wow thanks for the offer

i spent some time and repaired as best i could with devcon

the issue is  where the waterpump seal is badly corroded and i cant see how devcon will repair this area

anyways it seem to be sealed at the moment so i will see how it stands up

it just shi ts me its not 100%

hey mike did you drain coolant when not in use?

wondering if this would help or maybe is there a more friendly brand of coolant

your milling idea sounds doable but way above my pay grade

No Nick I just parked it for a couple of months and when I came back the corrosion had slipped behind the DEVCON and continued on its merry way. I was using a lot of Castrol stuff in the water.
Check with Slakewell he,s pretty switched on and will probably fix it with no dramas.

The total replacement of the waterpump is a  pretty radical idea but this problem would never happen again.
Not real genuine tho. ;D

Sorry Nick no gee up.
If I still owned the 86 I would probably chop the pump off and fit a plastic one.
This idea is easier to do than the repairs I had to do on my 86 Husky pump.

Always use a motorbike specific coolant guys....most of the car shit is just that....use Motorex or something along those lines and ALWAYS paint the insides of magnesium whether its got coolant touching it or not!!!!!

I have an 87 250 enduro that did the same thing with the waterpump and had the Devcon fix. One school of thought has been to use straight water ( no coolant) to stop this happening again. Probably no good on a long trailride but for a few vmx laps or a bit of a paddockbash this may not be a problem. Any thoughts on the coolant/no coolant question.?
