This brings up a good point....Is a K180 Dunlop OK for Nudgee or is the Michelin trials tyre still the go? I've got a K180 and a similar tread pattern Bridgestone wet weather slick and I'd like to use them if the track likes them.......In other words, What's the hot tyre for Nudgee?

Mark, I've used mine at Nudgee and Coff's on both the RM400 and TM125 with podium finishes in vintage and open seniors, that's why I wanted another..I love em'

Yeah a Michelin trials is the go for Nudgee

I had a 19" front and 18" rear K180's on my elsinore a few years ago.

Yep, mine's an 18" as well Freaky. You've probably only noticed 19"s because almost all of the Yanks  use a 19" front and rear combo. When Nepean used to be oiled a few years ago, the 18" K180 was the hot ticket along with wet weather slicks. Back in the old days I used to use a cut Michelin wet weather slick that was the best DT Tyre I ever used. I kept on grooving that bugger until I finally hit canvas and had to chuck it. The Carlilse 'S' pattern was very similar to the K180 and it worked well on slick oiled tracks. Jonesy's uses a 19" Maxxis 'S' pattern on Black Betty which I've been told is made using the old Carlilse moulds. He doesn't like it on the "new" Nepean surface and has gone back to a Kenda speedway tyre.

To play it safe, I guess I'll stick with the Michelin Trials for Nudgee.

So what are the k180's like @ nudgee? Is it that they don't hook up at the rear or you just can't get it around the corner? If it's the latter, would a steel shoe help or would that just mess up the ebb and flow and cause some greef?

The K180's are better suited to oiled tracks, compared to a Michelin on deco. But they are ok if that's all you have, they just don't hook up as well as the trials tyre on dirt.

I did cut mine on the left angling the 10mm wide slices inward so as to basically halve the tread block size whilst effectively adding 100% more aggressively angled biting edges Also ran pretty low pressure, it was something like 9lb or 10lb or maybe less, also used rubber rim straps instead of rim locks to stop any creep.


Sit just off the racing line and it's smooth sailing all the way
