Oh my aching wallet!
« on: January 22, 2011, 06:46:13 pm »
I did some arithmetic on the latest project I’m into at the moment and I’m a bit concerned that it isn’t tracking that well! The end result should be a bike that is what I’ve wanted to end up with but the accounting formula doesn’t seem to be all that clear.  I have seen some fairly impressive VMX bikes that I’ve set as benchmarks but how pricey have they been and am I in the ball park?

This could turn into a Show & Tell. What are you restoring and how much has the project cost so far?
Last year I restored a 1976 Yamaha YZ250C and has left a gaping hole in my wallet to the tune of just over $9000
I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

The best thing you can do is not add it up - you'll only get depressed  ;) ;D
Worse still your missus may find your calculations  :o :o :o

The only triple jumps he would have been doing are the hop, skip & jump.

In reality, without lying to yourself, a top resto/race bike will cost you between 5 to 10K, maybe more, depending on what your after.....the blokes that do it for $2.50 dont race and most of them wouldnt last 10 minutes on the track running flat out without having a major hemorage......having said that, everybody has there own budget and ideas on what a restoration/race bike should be. The thing to remember, if it is a race bike and you cut corners then be prepared for constant letdowns and regular wallet flushing. ;) ;D.....remember the moto...do it once, do it right.
QVMX.....Australia's #1 VMX club......leading the way.

The only cheap way out is restoring sidecars , they are cheap to buy  and  between two people shared , they can run with peanuts  :D
Haha where do you buy your parts from?  ;D

True I suppose,
My bike would cost much less if it didn't run!
