Aldi stores O ring special
« on: January 20, 2011, 03:53:04 pm »
It's amazing what you find when you are not looking for it. Spent part of this week looking for 2 small O rings to fix my TY175 carby and not being successful. Yamaha Ripoff PTY LTD wanted about $17.00 for 2 O rings. Tomorrow I was going to bite the bullet and buy them and lo and behold Aldi had box sets of "oil & acid resistant" O rings for $13.00 per 420 pieces box. And guess what, they bloody fit the the bits on the carby and when started did not leak!
So they are now on special at Aldi in both Metric and Inch till next Wednesday, a Bargain!!

Just don't buy food there.   We still have a jar of "Bramwells" peanut butter on the shelf two years
later, cos the ex reckons "Aldi is great".
I think most of their food is grown on land bought cheaply near Churnobyl.

Hmmm .... so, TYMTIT  (that sounds a bit rude) has 420.

And All Things 66M has none.

And I'm bent double with the procrastination bug.

I got two boxes , both imperial and metric the last time they had them on sale and have been using them on everything. Aldi spanners, gizmos and electric tools are top quality and as cheap as chips. Their ratchet ring spanners are so similar to Snap-On it ain't funny.

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Would it be asking too much for you to drag yourself off the couch and get me a box of metric ones? Hmm? :-\

You can get any size O ring you want from a bearing shop.. you don't have to buy genuine.

They most likely would have been Nitrile-Buna which is not very fuel resistant. For fuel and higher chemical resistance you would want Viton. Viton o-rings are usually dull in colour and not a shiny black colour like NBR. Viton o-rings are more expensive than NBR too. Most o-ring 'bulk packs' or 'kits' sold at hardware or cheap as chips type stores are only NBR unless specifically marked Viton. So all im saying is to be aware that if your using NBR o-rings where fuel is involved, that they may not last very long. Viton casn also handle more heat and are more abrasion resistant and can generally handle more than NBR but of coarse you still have different durometer ratings aswell. for general sealing around 75 is the norm.
