Where do you go to test ride?
« on: January 19, 2011, 12:46:54 pm »
Rather than wait till race day to test out a freshly rebuilt engine, adjust jetting, suspension etc where do you go to have a test ride.
I live in Sydney and Menai is handy and free but risky, apart from that its Appin or Pacific park.
Sometimes only need a 10-15 minute ride as a check, and a few spins around the block will eventully upset the neighbours.
If you live in the country would be easy, not so easy in the suburbs.   :-[

Mostly up & down the street where my workshop is in Enfield.
For a more testing ride I go to a mates 180 acre property out at Greendale near Wallacia.
Sadly he has only recently put it up for sale at $3m, so I'll be looking around for somewhere else soon.
If there are any money bags out there looking for a property close to Sydney this is the one for you, large machinery shed, 2 bedroom relocatable home, a full motocross track and a supercross track.
You can't forget your mates though.

My backyard.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

It's a former Cattle Stud and apparently someone has put a deposit already.
I'm in the wrong business.

On the farm, 250 acres of rolling pastures and wandering creek. Or down the road is 200 acres of un-developed land. Or if I want a blast for safari style roads I can ride through to Beaudesert over roads similar to MacDonald ranges. Or I can shoot over to Tivoli if I want to be bashed about on a crap Aust style mx track. Or 1 1/4 hrs up the road to Echo Valley. Or 2 hrs from Conondale or 24hrs from  Warrnambool. Take your pick.

Private practice track.  Roughly 20-30 acres of rolling natural cattle pastures with some big hits dug into the hillside here & there, a couple of table tops for the nutters on moderns.  The best bit is that you can treat it like a full on mx track with the jumps & woops, or just go around them on the grass for a great grasstrack practice.  Took a while to build, we had an excavator for a couple of days making some berms and helping with the tabletops.  We have a watering trailer with a nice honda pump on it, & a decent tractor with a bucket to fix up erosion ruts & what not.

There's an enduro loop at one end of the acreage where the bush hasn't been cleared.  Only takes about 3 minutes to get around, but it's great practice for cornering & braking.

We kick the cows out and off we go.  The downside is that they don't take their shit with them!

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.
