Cagiva Elefant - NOT VMX
« on: January 05, 2011, 10:59:07 am »
Sorry, it's not VMX, but I figure there's a lot of you out there so it might be worth asking.  ;)
I'm looking for a Cagiva Elefant of some sort. Preferably late 80's or early 90's in Lucky Explorer livery, but will consider anything.
I'd really appreciate it if you would pm or email me if you hear of one for sale.
Thanks.  :)

Thats a serious mid-life crisis you've got there Tony.

Are Cagiva still going or were they bought out by another company?
Their marketing skills need some honing.
Elefant doesn't bring on visions of a sleek fast machine.
May as well have called it a Sloth or Wombat or something.
Maybe the marketing guys from Hodaka got jobs with Cagiva ;D

if it's not bad enough that the bike was called an 'Elefant', dressing it up in the Lucky Explorer livery must be the icing on the cake? ;D

Ok it really does look like a KLR. I was expecting it to look a lot bigger and bulkier.

I have a Cagiva tamamaco 125 in Lucky explorer livery for sale. These are done up to look like a Paris Dakar bike but are an oil injected water cooled 125.
Its a 92 model , not registerable but cheap $1500. Had a 97 900 Elefant in dark blue. Great bike sold it 6 months ago (6000). Best of luck in your search!

Gag ...  thankfully Cagiva went on to other victims and Ducati went back to powering real motorcycles.

If that yanks your chain what about a Morini Camel, or a Guzzi trail bike.

What about Cagiva Navigator??? Cagiva moved from Ducati motor[Elefant] to Suzuki v twin 1000cc, they got good reviews when released. I got one- but have yet to ride it off road. It goes good on the road and feels a heap smaller than my Vstrom, and more powerful. They have a Kooky size front wheel, and poxxy plastics, but steel trellis frame ,good brakes and suspension, suzuki reliability/longevity/serviceability, with European quality running gear. I ride with a mate that has a 750 Elefant[not for sale] I have not ridden it- but its in the shed and he rides a BMW R100GS now?? Fraser had the Elefants in Newcastle and could not give them away when they were new??
I think the Ducati motor is good but the Suzy is better, and the frame is probably identical or very close.......
Sorry if I offended anyone

FWIW this is actually what I'm after.

But I've just come home to find out that there's only a couple of them in Australia and one of those was imported from NZ.  It seems the two that I've seen over the years were in actual fact, the same bike.  ::)
So much for that idea..........  :-\
