New Bultaco toy
« on: December 23, 2010, 09:28:16 pm »
I had one of these bikes 30 years ago and after finding VMX magazine a fews years back the spark was reignited. I purchased this bike a while ago sight unseen and to say I was dissapointed when it arrived was an understatement. The expansion chamber was pancaked and what came out of the tail pipe was a solid carbonised oily piece of gunk. How the bike even started was beyond me. I had Don Newell refurbish the brakes, while I was busy giving the bike a cosmetic makeover. New stainless steel spokes, anodised rims ,plastics, a set of side covers laying on the floor of Anthony Suttors lounge that I found when I went to visit him while working at Orange last year. The Fox Air Shocks I aquired from a bloke at work for $300 who had them sitting in his shed for 30 years. After fitting indicators, horn and tail light I fitted a heavy duty 6 volt dry cell battery in the bum bag to power them. The battery is recharged overnight by a 240 volt trickle feed, but I only need to do that once in a blue moon. The headlight is powered by the motor. To my amazement the only thing I had to do to the motor besides a bit of internal wiring was replace the rings. When I first took it for a ride I was amazed at how quick it was... I then took it down to see ol mate for a blue slip then off to the RTA and she's good to go.  So if you see the bike getting around Newcastle then that would be me, cheers.

That's bloody brilliant! I'd love to see it out on the road one day.
I've just bought a Mk11 Pursang to restore and I'd be very happy if it was in the same condition when its finished - great work!
Cheers,
Mark

Man I love that bike! I think gold looks great - much prefer them to the blue Mk11. I'm in Newcastle too - hope to see you on the street. You've got me thinking now...

Diddo Lyle. Top job mate.

And full reg to boot ;D A set of those throw-over saddle bags and the horizon is your oyster. When we were young a close mate in Newcastle had that exact model, Great engine, great handling bike.

Here is another full rego Bully that gets the Sunday paper in Newcastle.

MICK-DE that Sherpa is a gem. Do you ever go bush on it? I'd put my 159 on but I can't see how to do it.
