Even though I've been into Kwaka's for years and even working in Bike shops for years, I still don't understand why K called them SR's ?

Like Honda with the road race specials were RCB's not CBR's od RVF's not VFR's.

Doe it mean "Special Racing" or "Super Rare" or "Salubrious Rooly"

Anybody wanna explain?.

So many cool Kawi's, a couple in that collection are ex Aussie bikes ridden by Graeme Smythe in the late 70's.
#48 big bore and #01 behind it.

What's the history on that one Bahnzy? I'd hate to slide too far forward on that thing!!

After riding my 84 RM125, which has had the magic wand waved over it, i thought that it was pretty quick, untill i rode this one. Bottom end does not exist, but mid range and top end are beyond explanation. Sounds like a 250 and explodes like one.
Engine wise there are more factory bits than you can poke a stick at. It runs a heavily modified 39mm carburettor with a factory works pipe and muffler. From the factory the bike would have been fitted with a single left side radiator whereas this bike is fitted with twin radiators. Suspension is nothing like i've ever seen or ridden on before, specifically for something built in the early eighties,
I'm not 100% sure of the exact origins of the bike although a certain Queensland Kawasaki collector may know more but i was of the understanding that it came out of Europe/UK some time back.

The tank is pretty much par for the course on the 80/81 works machines. The story goes that the bikes cooked in the deep sand of the euro tracks so they fitted twin radiators to keep them cool. The problem then was that they had no room for a decent fuel tank required to get the bike through the power sapping sand and the 40 minute motos, hence the "awkward" tank design. Check out Lackeys bike from the above listed site.
