Well i actually picked up 2 bikes, but I'll keep the discussions only about the kx here. From my experience as a bike mechanic years ago I know just how neglected motor cross bikes can be in especially 2 stroke bikes. I was actually surprised when I gave this bike a good clean and what sort of condition it was in.
The bike had been sitting in storage for years. I flush out the fuel tank (nearly spewed at the smell) and starting cleaning the carby up. I wished now that I took a picture of the before and after process.
I've stumbled on what has to be the greatest carby cleaner/carbon cleaning out there. It's made by three bond and it's called engine conditioner.
Anyway the bike fired up first kick and rides pretty well.
I'm not sure what my plans are for the bike yet, but i will start repairing the issues it has. Here is my list.
-Chain and sprockets
-Expansion chamber
-Front tyre
-Fork seals
-Front wheel bearings
-Front pads
-Change gear box oil
-Front rim (it has cracks near spokes)
-Front lever.
I did some research and that's how I worked out it's an 84. i was told that this was the first disc brake model front and rear, but from what i found it seems that it was the 82. I'm very new to the KX's so i don't mind being wrong or told.
I'll take some more pictures as the project goes along as i have many questions to ask. Here's a few to get started.
-Where can I find a decent online manual to download for free?
-Is this worth trying to keep original as possible?
-Would there be a market for this model or is it still to young?
I'll leave it at that for now.
