hmmm, I thought it was supposed to just use a single rubber band that went from one clip to the other around the back of both fork tubes....

Originally it was 1 O-ring, but most of them had broken before the bikes left the dealers, the most stable way is to use 1 O-ring per clip like the photo. Take one to your local bearing shop and buy 50 of the suckers if you are going to race......change them every couple of months. I always have spare clips aswell in case you have an "off".

Or spend $42 and fix the problem permanently.... Suzuki ones are the best of the lot

I thought that the earlier bikes had one band, and then as the forks grew in diameter (and further apart), they went to the two bands.

Normal O-rings are rubbish. The ones that you get with the VMX Plastics plates are nitrile(?) or something, that last a LOT longer.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Why would you bother spending $42 on rubber bands and cobby bits of bent tin to hold your # plate on when you can do it and a hell of a lot more neatly and securely with these gizmos.
I've got them on all of my bikes and at $25 a pair they're not going to send you broke either.

Your right Mark, those Suzuki ones are crappola....they scratch the shit out of the hard-chrome on the forks and the rubber bands are a shit to put on. I like those billet ones but have refranned from buying them....yet ;D....I have heeps of the Yammie ones as I sell Scotts VMX plastics products up here. I was thinking of designing a plastic version of the billet ones and getting them made. ;)

Mick, there's a couple of different types often found on eBay but I get mine from a guy that advertises on the Vintage Flat Track website.....www.vft.org  http://www.vft.org/vftforsale2Products.html they are only available in 35mm or 38mm.
I also found these slightly different and more expensive ones on eBay.
