CR500 Intake Boot
« on: November 26, 2010, 11:45:03 am »
A friend of mine is building a 85 CR500 and tells me air box to carby intake boots are impossible to get for that bike and no one has worked out what other models will fit. Is this correct? He is talking about making a mould and casting his own. I told him I would put a post on here to see what the gurus reckon.

If he is looking for a NOS part they may be hard to find but there are plenty of good second hand ones around

If he is looking for a new boot because the old boot has shrunk another fix is to make a spacer out of some 10-15mm ally plate that goes between the reed block and the cylinder. Just use a reed block gasket as a template and cut it out / drill etc. I have had a few CR's that have had this done and there is no noticable performance change. If you paint them black you can hardly notice they are there.

Or just buy one off US Ebay
Looking fo a TZ750 anyone with any leads please PM

are you talking Honda or Husky CR500?

if its Honda, i can confirm that CR250RG rear subframe and complete airbox will fit as that's whats on my 85' CR500RF.

I haven’t seen the bike so I don’t know if it raps around the shock. I guess I was hoping someone would say order one for a XXXX and trim it 10mm and it will fit perfectly...

What s wrong with buying the right one off Ebay and bolting it on?? there are plenty on there

And yes they wrap around the shock and are common to 85-89 CR500's and I think the 250's as well as Hoony said

there was a post here some time back and the general concenus was that soaking old rubber in brake fluid softened it up again.
