RM125S 1975 Resto
« on: November 22, 2010, 08:51:46 pm »
Hi lads,

I've just acquired a very well worn 1975 Suzuki RM125S in pieces with a reconditioned motor.
I plan on getting it race ready, so I'll need some advice from the Suzuki experts...
First off, where do I get a parts manual for this bike and who are some good suppliers.
Also, what is the spares supply like - are they easy to get bits for?

Cheers,
Mark

Gday Mark,
Where are you located. What do you require? If you do have a fuel tank ,i am curious what it is made of aluminium or steel? I rode my S last weekend among a couple of other old girls. The S is a cool bike. I was actually riding a couple of bikes to see what i will be selling... Think i will keep the S
Cheers Brett

The genuine parts book is an attachment to the RM125 M S A B book  part number 99000-930?? missing numerals maybe 22 sorry they are worn away on cover of my copy.
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Hi Mark, you'll enjoy the little RM once you get it running.  They are a fun bike. I haven't bothered getting a parts manual - the Alpha Sports website has all the diagrams and part numbers and it's hugely useful for checking what's common across the TM125, RM125M/S and RM125A. I have found that parts are readily available through Suzuki itself, Suzi Parts in Adelaide, and Vintage Suzuki in the States. And of course eBay. The Vintage Suzuki plastics are good, although a slightly too yellow colour. Original seat shape foams don't seem to be available, but a 125 A/B plastic base and Vintage Suzuki foam/cover works just fine. 1975 RM125s are an easy resto and an easy bike to live with.

Thanks Brett, Graeme and Tim - thats very useful stuff. In 5 minutes I have a parts manual and a workshop manual - brilliant!

Brett, I'm in Paddington in Sydney. The tank I have is steel and its pretty rusty with a couple of dents. The chrome on the forks is pretty bad as it the exhaust. Any ideas on getting some useable fork legs?

It does look pretty straight forward - maybe this can be a mates bike - ie a useable, cheap bike that others can take for a VMX ride to learn on or just have fun.

Cheers,
Mark

S parts list at the link below, pages 56-60. Alpha-sport don't list these bits as the US never got the S model and had to purchase optional 'kit parts' which weren't shown in the US parts lists.

parts are pretty easy and it should have a steel tank, alloy tank is RM125A/B only ;)

How about this gents, my S has an aluminium tank. It is not a 125a tank as thats more of a bubble shape. Go figure...

Yes Doc, this bike also has the reed valve feeding into the crank case and its not an A crankcase. I would post a pic but i cannot cause the forum doesn't allow at the moment.. Its neville shepherds old bike, there are old pics on the forum before the race resto.
