RM 400
« on: October 29, 2010, 10:19:54 am »
I'm after bolts washers etc for all the plastics for a RM 400. Could I just go to a hardware shop or do I need to get something suited to the bike?
Cheers

Just go to your nearest bolt shop.  Most bolt outlets should have some nice stainless cap screws for bolting on plastics.  If you've got some samples of what you're after, even better.

Depends on how good you want it, I find stainless cap screws look wrong, like a dairy factory on wheels plus stainless has a bad habit of working loose.

I normally buy a motorcycle fastener kit from your local bike bike shop like this one.

That way you get the aluminium backing washers for plastics and bunch of other useful stuff, in standard motorcycle bolts.

If your fussy, the plastic frame sidecover (numberplate) screws (the std flanged type with a big flat head) are available from Suzuki..ask to see the GSX-R fairing mounting screws..same deal as the original RM screws except they're chromed. A little expensive being genuine but there's only 4 or so of 'em anyway and they're a nice touch ;)

The radiator shroud screws from the 84 RM's are nice too. They lie very flat which on the sidecovers of the 79/80's RM's is a bonus- they won't snag your boots etc.
