Sweet....Brian Curtis is the guy who made the original HL Yamaha frames back in the mid 70s. Like Harry Hindall, he's one of those frame genius's that are often overshadowed by Eric Cheney, Rickmans, C&J ETC. Se still makes a very cool frame to suit Honda XL/XR motor based on the original HL design.

yes i agree Dave it hits you first up when you look at the bike. not only does it look wrong on many levels but i reckon it would be uncomfortable on the leg as well

I don't like the engineering of the clamped foot pegs either - only made worst by the long leverage the body weight would have over the clamping area. I would predict movement or deforming and stressing (breakage) of the frame rails.

But what would I know .

That style of peg mount is nearly identical to the arrangement Canam used from what I can see - never heard of or had a problem in that area. Quite stout.

Rickman, Cheney, Cotton, Trackmaster, Hindall and Can-Am (thanks C-A 370)amongst others have used an identical system for decades with no known problems. I think it's an even better system to a welded peg bracket in that the stress is spread over a larger area inboard of the frame rail.

I also agree with the pipe location but remember that this frame/bike was probably built in the early seventies when fashion dictated different ergonomics. Back then it was probably thought to be ideal.

Brian still builds the occasional motocross frame. He has a thriving business making BMX cycles. Yet another ex Cheney employee. It's amazing how many bike builders used to work for either Cheney or Rickman.

Even event promoter Dave King rode a nice Curtis Honda.
