Can someone weigh an 81 490 for me?
« on: October 06, 2010, 03:29:40 pm »
As the title says I'm after the weights of an 81 Maico.

I'm not worried about how accurate the total is but I want to find the weight bias between front and rear, preferably with a full tank

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Brent

Hi Paul,
If you have got known to be accurate (tested) bath scales you will be able to weight one wheel at time. The procedure for accuracy is to set something like a block of wood for resting the un-weighed wheel to the exact height of the other wheel being weighed on the scale surface.

IE; set the leveling block apart at the wheel base center distance, pack it to height using a straight edge and a level. Add the two results together, and it will be as accurate as your scales.

I am creating a reference on all that I build. When I’m posting stuff for eBay? I take test objects to the post office and write on them the result. I select them to calibrate my scales when I am  operating close to that range (zone).

Thanks for that Paul,

The absolute weight is handy, I'm hoping someone has some scales to get the front and rear weights.

Less haste for me Brent.

I should have read your "whole" post before I replied.

If no one has answered by the weekend, I will attempt to visit mine and return with figures.

Cheers.

If (fading) memory serves me, don't you have an XT/TT powered Maico EVO?

I'd be very keen to know the weights on that

I see you didn't get an answer over the weekend Brent.

I am heading off to bring mine home from storage today. I will stop at the servo and fill the tank as well.
Then a bit of a door knock to find a pair of the newer type of "digital" bath scales.

- given the following disclaimers-
 1) the bathroom scales used are of unknown accuracy but "seem" close to correct
 2) bike is fitted with a Husky WR silencer and Db Snorkel- probably around 1kg extra weight over the rear
 3) bike is otherwise standard except for later bars and wide footpegs
 4) bike was totally dry of fuel but full of oils
81 490 weighs 55kg at rear and 50 kg at front- for the sake of comparison a 2003 KX500 weighs out at 55kg front and 55kg rear- similar constraints apply to this reading as well.
Logically fuel load would split around 75/25 front to rear on top of this.
