About time I did this
« on: January 11, 2008, 01:45:08 pm »
Hi Lads & Ladies I thought it's about time so here goes, Names Greg Lewis most people who know me call me Louie except my wife who has many names for me (won't go into that) , I live in Nth Qld & have been involved in VMX since 2002 when I attended my first Prosipine VMX meeting on a 1975 250 Maico and every year after that untill this year when I rode my newly aquired Mega 2 490. My interest in motorcycling goes back to the early 70's when as a young fella growing up in Wonthaggi my father got involved with the Dandenong MC club & the construction of the track in Wonthaggi which I still have fond memorys of, My family could'nt afford for me to race back then so I had to be content with flogging my poor old DT 125 A (which I still own) around that track for hours any time I could, Anyway geeting all nostalgic now so I'll stop. I hope to get to CD5 this year and meet more of the VMX family Cheers .

Good story Bingil.  Don't you just love living up here - gods country - although a wee bit humid at the moment :o.  Is your alias a hint as to where you might live ??

Cheers
Looking for YZ250C parts NOS if possible

The only triple jumps he would have been doing are the hop, skip & jump.

Geez, That's just down the road, and probably one of the most beautiful spots in Australia.  Have to catch you at some stage for a beer and a chat.  When is Prosepine (sp??).  I'd love to go and have a look at that too.  CD5 will drain the funds a little though, so maybe next year :-\.

Cheers

G'day Bingil,

i am a long time (29 years) member of the Dandenong M.C.C. and can report that earlier this year we purchased the track at wonthaggi outtright. as a matter of interest what is you fathers name (PM me if you like) as i have been involved with this club since 1979. Wonthaggi track was built in 1975 i believe and leases by the D.M.C.C. till we purchased it.

Hi Hoony, mate I was a member at the tender age of 14 in 1976 as you had to be 14 to join my dads name is Neville (Nocker ) Lewis and dad and I had to travell to Dandenong from Wonthaggi for meetings at a hall next to a pushbike veladrom when Jack Pangbourne was President , Accually the first Maico I rode was Jack's sons Peter's 1974 250, My dad got involved through his best mate Ron Bregemier who did most of the earth works at the track,Ron & his sons Darrell,Neil,& Russell were all good riders in both outfits & solo, could go on but I can't type for shit & it's taken me about 30 min to do this and that's enough for me Cheers

yep, remember Jack Pangbourne quite well (he passed on 20 year ago) and russel Bergmeirer went on to win the 1982 Aussie 500cc Sidecar title at ACUSA park in S.A. (i think he also won a few 1000cc sidecar titles as well) was the Hall in Keysborough next to a footy ground  or a velodrome ? if it was a velodrome that was before i got involved in the club.

Sorry Hoony forgot to answer one of your questions, The meetings were held at a hall near a veladrome don't remember where, We used to travell down in dads 1966 Rambler 660 classic, stop at Cranbourne on the way for a hamburger and dad would drink all the way there, at the meeting & on the all the way home , no one worried adout drink driving back then, it was my job to clean out the stubbies out from under the seat the next day.

Brent,

The missus just reminded me that number 3 is due about the same time as Proserpine, so It's definitely out for me.  I would still love to catch you for a beer and a chat though while you are around here.  I'm sure we can find a venue that sells Guiness for Bingil  ;D ;D

You going to CD5 Brent ??  How did the suspension school go ?
Bingil - I'm going to fly to newcastle and hire a car to drive out there and camp.  You are welcome to join me if you want.

Cheers
