414 VG's in the UK.

Why are there a lot of 414 Vg's left in the UK? well found out that Bill Brown who was a main maico dealer and not a montesa dealer at the time (1980)purchased when montesa were being taken over by Honda a batch of 200 414 VG's that they wanted to get rid of for the sum of £300 each,these were then sold for £500 each no part ex cash sale in the crate and within a week he had sold them all a nice way to earn £40000 way back then in a week.Makes me wonder how maney were actualy made and where did the others go?.

The number of 200 cant be correct, the 414VG started at serial number 66M02575, and the highest number you and i know of is 66M02765.  thats only 190 units. granted that there will be some greater serial numbers still out there, SO what about spain and other countrys 414vg sales???  not ALL the 414Vg's came to the UK..........

I live in Spain and I am trying to get a 414 (not easy). I would like to know whether some of you know anyone in the UK that might have one 414 of these for sale, regarless of condition.

I'm selling one of my VF 414's for a reasonable price Jurado. I'm happy to help with getting it shipped to Spain from Australia (crating etc).

Sandy you could be right as i am only going on information i have recieved but i am trying to find out more today.It would still be of great interest to try and find out how many 414 VG's were sold or produced but going on from comments made on this and other threads there does not seem to be many around has anybody else on this forum got anything to add to this as this seems to be an unknown area.


All things 414 intersting as to what a reasonable price is in Australia?.

If jurado is finding it hard then does it sugest not to many in Spain either?.

This is what was procuded in Spain, as far as I now:

CAPPRA 414VE: years 78-79. Frame nunbers: 66M 01799 onwards. Number 474
CAPPRA 414VF: years 79-80. Frame nunbers: 66M 02262 onwards. Number 339
CAPPRA 414VG: years 81-82. Frame nunbers: 66M 02575 onwards. Number x.

Thanks for your reply. I am not sure what you mean by a “reasonable price”, which obviously will be related to bike condition. Here in Spain there are 414´s around in a pretty good shape for around 3,000 Euro. I am looking for something that might not be in such a good condition and, thus, cheaper. Thanks jurado it is the 414vg that seems to be eluding everyone in numbers i wonder if the factory know,i know they kept certain records as they supplied me a few years back with a manual for a 250vg but wether they know numbers is another thing.

Jared do you have any idea

just looked at numbers again and they dont seem to add up

414ve 66m 01799 plus 474 made =. 66mo 02273?  414vf start at 02262 yet 414ve should finish at 02273?

414vf 66m 02262 plus 339 made = 66mo 022601? 414vg start at 02575 yet 414vf should finish at 022601?

414vg 66m 02575 --------------------------------?

I can't add much of anything concerning these production totals.  I do know that any totals after
1980 are unreliable at best and I don't know why!

Just spoken to Bill Brown himself and he did import 200 414VG's and sold them all within 3 days also said he got back in touch with the factory to buy some more and they told him there are no more you had all that we had left.that means the ones in the UK are the last 414VG's made(unless you know different) so if anybody on this forum knows of any 414VG's and know the frame/engine numbers please let us know and post them on here.also what country they are in so we can get an idea of numbers made and where in the world they are.Would be helpfull also if they are yellow or white tank.

jurado are the 414's you talk about in spain mainly VE/VF or VG's.

I ponderd over it for awhile and yes its a lot of money but it wont be when i build it up with parts that i have that have cost me very little over years of collecting and thats the way i looked at it but it is the most i have ever paid for one and that includes the brand new one i had in 1979.
I will put it back to a 414 with correct piston and liner(if the liner thats in it can be bored out)if not then i will put one of my spare barrels on it.What i will i do with it then? is another question.I just can't resist a mont.

You are like a fekin storeman mate.!!  lucky sod.  Kinda glad you got it as i simply havent the room to house another one just now.!!

Still doesnt add up. Earliest we know at present is  2617, latest is 2756, thats 148 in total.  at least these are UK figures..

Sorry Jurado. Mine are probably in better condition than what you're after. Id be after at least $6000.00 AU for my old racer. Maybe a little less without the good suspension on it. But it would be a 'fire it up and ride away bike' ;)
