Marty Moates RM 500
« on: August 27, 2010, 10:15:32 pm »
I remember seeing Marty Moates riding an RM 500 for Motosport Suzuki at Undera mx track in 84 or 85.
The thing with the bike is that it was a 500 motor in an 84 or 85  RM250 chassis.
Any body know what happened to the bike or the history of it?
Trying to locate the photo of it to upload.

I have a poster in my shed of him on that bike. Still had the shrouds on it.

Yeah i remember the bike, pretty sure it was in '84. I think someone on this forum knows a bit about who bought it and where it ended up.. can't remember who it was.

Its an 84 model 250 chassis.  The bike is still owned by Ron the owner of Motosport Suzuki. Its being slowly restored at the moment. If anyone has some close up photos of the bike that can forward them to me it would be much appreciated as it will help with the resto

Cheers
Mick

I had a bike in a few years ago that was a 500 motor in the 250 frame.
It was suspected of being Martys bike but I beleive they built a few of them in the day.
I think it belonged to a forum member but can't remember now.
From memeory I repaired the pipe on it as it had a custom fitted pipe.

That was my bike Geoff. Thanks, the welding job you did on the pipe has stood up well. The conversion job done on the frame was pretty neat, that's why I thought it may have been Marty's bike, but in fact must have been a copy. I've no idea who built these bikes.
I removed the radiator shrouds and fitted an RM465 tank, which I think looked a little better.

Cheers
