I rode the very first meeting held at Stanmore in '77.. it was like a flat track then.
Always wondered how far back the track went. I still haven't learned just to ask the walking mx encyclopedia !!  :D

Found the local track in '79 at the age of 12. Stanmore mx track which is still there but sadly will be gone very soon. Typically, people move into the area then start to complain about the noise.

which is what happened to the track at Narangba despite the fact it was right beside the Bruce Highway ::)

John, did you ever ride at the old Caboolture speedway? it did have a motocross track (around and through it) but was not so good.

Another good track from the 70's was the Kilcoy track on the western side of Kilcoy (not the one now) it was a textbook natural terrian track and the first track I rode as a Junior on 125's in 78.

Love them old shots with the tracks and half buried tyres (specially painted White).

As a kid was always great to turn up at a track that was like this.

Hey Mudguard, I also started racing at Lake Macquarie in 1980. Some fast guys came from the club in that period like Kevin Curtain and Todd Wiltshire. The track's still there but it's not a junior club anymore. The track is totally different to what it once was as well, except for the berm before the main tabletop. The main tabletop appeared in about '81 I think and started life as a set of doubles. The bottom part of the current track used to be a separate short circuit track. It was just recently used for a Heaven round and has been used to host rounds for the Australian Motocross Championship. Does anyone remember when the Leyland Brothers did a story about junior motocross at the track in the mid 70's?

Castlemaine and district minibike club, didnt actually get to race until early 1980, and also Bendigo minibike club. Castlemaine track still in existence, but a different layout. Some of the local Gun riders of the times were Peter Honebone and Simon Broad, the late Trevor Day, and several quick guys from Melbourne, Ricky Murphy, Troy Dorron(!), Glen McDonald, Glen Kambouris etc

Hey Rodpack,
Thats what were looking for, vmx forum members from the same junior club. Wonder how many of us are out there?
Wiltshire, Curtin and another A-Grade rider Steve ? dont remember his last name, but were always the standout riders at junior level. I remember Steve rode a YZ80 and had a very modified XR80 that would smoke most of the 2 stroke 80cc, was entertaining to watch 8) They were above my grade. I think Wiltshire went on to ride speedway solo's.
I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

Todd Wiltshire did indeed go on to ride speedway solo and was/is an exceptional international speedway rider. he had a bad accident and did some back damage and gave it away for a few years only to come back later to the same form. a great rider to watch and a very fast starter.
