360H7 for MX ??
« on: August 25, 2010, 12:46:16 am »
Hello to all, have enjoyed reading the bb for many years. I now have a VB360 and will soon have my ex-VB250. Had a VF414 at once---regret selling that one ! Have been on Husky last year and many years on Buls before that. My quest is to build a Monty for the AHRMA GP class. I would have better luck hitting the lotto than finding a VG model here in the states. From time to time a 360H7 pops up here so I got a wild hair. How would a H7 do at mx, once it's set-up for it ? I am thinking putting some larger forks on and such. How does a H7 motor compare to a VB ?  What are the chances of finding a VG tank ? Is the VE/VF/VG tank the same, just different color ? I appreciate all the advice I can get and enjoy the forum. Regards---Rhett

Hi Rhett. I think a 360H7 would be pretty good for MX. The newer frame geometry of the H7 would have to be a bonus and they deffinatly have a better front brake than the 414's. You'd probably have to gear it down quite a bit (something I found with my 250 H7) and even then you'd probably never get it into top gear on an MX track (top gear is more like a road gear for between Enduro sections I believe). I think it'd be a nice torquey engine like the 414's as well. Chop the rear loop and you'd have an impressive looking bike even if you leave the H7 tank on it.

The VE tank is different in where it mounts but the VF and VG tanks are interchangable.

If you are able to get hold of a VG tank and chop the rear you should end up with something that looks a bit like this......

Rhett,
Here's a link to a conversion.  It's in Spanish, but with a lot of pictures.

Wow! Good link Jared. If you hit the translate button it's fairly easy to work out what he's on about. Pretty thorough. :)
