One of my best friends was Peter Bay Neigbourg, from Invercargill, NZ.

He is Dead now. He lived in my home with my children. We always had bikes. His favourite was his YZ 465 G(as well as other roadies). We worked together in many jobs, a couple of hotels for a while, on Friday and Saturday nights. He always had me covered. We worked all the time and dreamt we would race all the time.

He used to tell me about Bert Munroe, "BEFORE THE MOVIE", super achiever, a man of total conviction to going fast on motorcycles.  “Fastest man about”   “done Nz Proud”….I used say “Shiiitt  Kiwi”, and he used to arch right up. God he was proud. Old mate Pete “moved on” right before the movie.

Naturally, I love that movie, I hold it close, just like “On any Sunday” and “Naturally Free”.

A Man, that just kept wanting to improve his machine, he had a great adventurer, gave a women a smile, when he was on the way to smoke em all, at the Bonneville salt flats. Well what do you know Pete? You weren’t bullshitting me after all Brother.

Well, carton is all gone now Pete, so I think I will climb in to bed. And pass out while I watching Bert, again, goodnight Mate.

Darryl is the older brother, can't remember if he's pushing or over 40 yet. Theres a heap of very fast vets riders over here now with either of the 3 king brothers able to run with the young guys. Wasn't Darryl still racing the aussie mx titles a couple of years ago?

Good to see Chad Reed made it at #3 and #5, he must be REALLY good....

Beat me to that Jerry, Kim Newcombe deserves a place up there with the greats. Kim and his self tuned(with Rod Tingate's guidance) Koenig beat the MV Augusta's with Ago and Phil Read fair and square. Here's why.

Excuse my ignorance about NZ racers, but on longevity and record alone Ivan Mauger has to be number 1 Kiwi.
Mick Doohan is definitely top Oz, if he hadn't mauled his leg he would have won 7 in a row I reckon.

I  vote for Shane Watts to be moved closer to the top.
Did heaps here but in Amerika he was not appreciated.
By his competition that is. :)
Didn,t they start to get upset with him winning everything he entered ? :)

I always thought his name was Ivan Miller. Of course I could be mistaken again(obviously same bloke Curly) Probably.
The chap I am thinking of  used to ride a 400 husky cross(early 70’s), that left everyone behind, as he was in a class of his own, full stop. In those days I think they used 3 foot thick trees trunks to plot out a course. And he could dance the arse or the rear end of a husky on the back wheel through them. Yes he should be moved up to #1, he was so far ahead of the rest of the band, he couldn’t hear the music.

But don't forget, they made a movie about Bert and he pulled a root on the way.

Thanks for that Davey Crocket. I am definitely an Ivan Miller admirer. Mind boggling.

Did he do well at trials as well?
