KDX200B engine and bits.
« on: January 04, 2008, 11:57:17 am »
As the title says:

I'm looking for an engine for an 84 KDX200. I've got a damaged barrel, a head, clutch cover and clutch-side crank-case and that's it.

Also looking for an airbox cover, headlight, carby, and tail-light.

Bike is not going to be a 100% resto, so alternative parts that fit will be fine, particularly the headlight.

Nathan.

Oh, and no doubt some of the forumers with longer memories will want to (quite rightly) take the piss out of me for becoming a Kawasaki owner. I'll start another thread for that, including pics of the bike.

Hey Nathan,
I know where there are about 50 or so barrels from various early model bikes (mostly early water cooled stuff) that have been back to a plating company in the USA where the would then be on-sold as part of a change over program. This particular dealer is longer into that side of the business and what is left over from his change over stock is a few barrels that have KDX200 & 250 stamped on them but no year/model identification. Any chance of a couple of pics that i may be able to match them for you. I can then ask what he wants for the barrel.

Thanks heaps gents. :)

Bahnsy, the one I've got has "DX200B" cast into the bottom, and 5-studs holding the head on.
The later KDX200C has an exhaust power valve, so would be easy to spot. I believe that the 200A barrel is different but interchangeable???

Headlight sorted thanks to Roger.:)
RHS sidecover sorted thanks (!?) to Ebay.
Tail-light requiring further investigation (the DK web page is beyond my concentration levels for the moment, but 21-0301 looks like a possible winner).

Everything else still needed.

im not 100% sure what your rear fender is like but TT 600 or an IT tail light may work.

Yeah....I'm a bit confused on that one too.
My guard looks like it'll take a long thin lens that bolts directly to the guard, but the bike they tested in ADB has an IT-style light, with the big lump of black rubber between the guard and the light proper, and a rectangular lens.

yep i know what your talking about, i know the 2 types. it think just the scew on lens may of been pre ADR? the ads for TT 600 had just a lens scewed to guard like the US models but all the ones ive seen that actually arrived here had the rubber base with the small TY/IT lens attached to that.  i may have a new universal low profile lens off an enduro fender that will fit right on your guard. are the holes in a square pattern (one in each corner) if so what is the hole spacing of the screw holes. i will look what i got tomorrow.

Two holes, one along each longer edge. The holes are roughly (but not exactly) halfway along.

Long edge is (very roughly) about 100mm long.

Local wrecker sorted me out with a seat today. The one on the bike didn't fit properly, but also had a badly cracked base, so I assumed that was the problem.

At the underwhelming Goulburn swap meet, I bought another seat the same, but with an uncracked base. Turns out that they're both the wrong seat...   :P

Spent a fair bit of time looking for rear guards, but found nothing. Ditto LHS side covers - well, I found two but both were just as rooted as the one I've got now.

The guard/tail-light thing is worrying me a bit: Anything in the Acerbis, UFO or MCA catalogues that looks remotely suitable is NLA if I want green.
Went to the local Kawasaki dealer, and they were worse than hopeless.
Tomorrow I'll try further afield.

repro maier side pannels here

ONE SET LEFT $42.72 US pr! KDX 200 83-85

ask Ballards to get you a universal Polisport rear fender with tail light from the LINK warehouse. i reckon if they had yellows left they would have green.

also the Acerbis universal 'Baja' rear fender which is same shape as the Polisport should be available from Italy factory. when i last checked they had a fair few green guards with tail lights left. it all depend on how quick you need one. i could give you the details and part number of where to get one ordered through the UK but you gotta wait a few weeks fro the importer to get them out of italy.
these acerbis and polisport fenders are very similar shape to the original which is different to that UFO one

Phone call to Off Road Imports told us that the Baja was discontinued in every colour (along with the Nost MX-type rear guards).
Damn I'm getting sick of lazy 'sales people' who will give you the easiest (for them) answer, even if it means they're not doing their job and you go away dissatisfied... >:(

Will dig deeper, thanks for the heads-up.

Quicky, yeah, they look like KDX200 to be too - see you at CD5! :)
