tapered roller bearings
« on: January 02, 2008, 10:11:03 am »
Can anyone advise me of where to obtain a tapered roller kit for xt 500 stearing head, or part numbers. I got the sizes off the pommy Thumper site, but my local bearing guy needs more info. Thanks,
John

John,

There's a kit available from bike shops to do the conversion. It's made by LINK (I'll post the numbers when I get home)

I've tried the bearing suppliers but these are not a standard size.
Looks like they are custom made for this application.

Also All Balls do a kit with seals, part #22-1008.  Available from your local bike shop.

Your second option is LINK kit No 90-140-05

Either one is an improvement over the std ball bearings.

ive got a Link brand kit for sale $35 and its yours. i paid $60 for it from Ballards. its brand new. i was going to use in on a bike but never did. this brand kit has no seals though. i think you use stock seals or they are not needed. ive used thick o-rings on the bottom before with kits that dont come with seals and use the stock top dust cover and maybe make my own felt seal

If Searbs doesn't want that kit I'll take it, he's got first option tho.

Hey Brent,
forgot to say thanks for the Link info, between myself and number 1 son we have a couple or 3  500's so I'm going to need more than one kit
