Honda built in party pie warmer
« on: July 22, 2010, 07:59:05 pm »
I picked up a xr500 1984 a few mths back  and i noticed this bolted on cover on the side of the head :o
I had to take it off to see what was in there :o and there was nothing just a empty void 3inches by 3inches it would make a good pie
warmer on those big rides what was honda thinking or this common honda thing ??? ;D

That’s really great news Mick. I’m stoked. I am looking forward to putting road rego on mine soon. I will be able to get a hinge and a latch and turn that  cover into a little oven door 8)  Hook up a thermometer read out on to the bars. No fug that, we should be able to smell when it’s done. So how much space is in there Mick? Enough room for a couple of those mini sausage rolls as well?

I have a few thoughts on the matter Graeme, but at this stage they all seem to have fatal flaws ??? Nothing a bit of campfire brainstorming couldn't fix though ::)

Yeah Mick, you wouldn't go outside now. It's pissin down here. It's rained 60 days out of the last 70 here ;D and I'm not kidding, twice a day. I came home with a 84cr alloy swing arm earlier this week and a 18' back wheel for the local dirt track.

I have two of them 84 XRs Mick. I finally raced one earlier this year at Buladelah. What a fiasco that was ::) but anyhow I had more fun than a five year old with his first peewe 50.

The hole is for the reed valve i think?. Boyesen #606. I know there is a XR 500 with a reed valve in the head but now that i think about it, its underneath and on the 82 model.

My XR600 has a dim sim cooker too, ;D we put one rapped in foil once rode for a hour and opened it up and it was a burnt to a crisp. Need to practise the time a bit more. Proberly one of the most stupid things I have ever done but my old Motorbike mechanic gave me the idea to try it . I like you have no idea what the opening is really for but I dont think dim sim cooker is it

cheers

MICKDE  I have seen a 84 xr500 with a cr250 swing arm and rear wheel looks good im going down the same track with mine,,
Im useing a xl185 tank or rm80 tank combo because the standard tank is  huge  ::) I have tryed about ten tanks to fit they have a
step centre tube and its short so has been a pain >:(
