Fibre Glass Bultaco Tank Paint in Two Days
« on: June 09, 2010, 06:45:24 pm »
My good mate Ron dropped his bush bashin Bultaco Matadore fibre glass fuel tank off on Sunday and asked if I could respray it for CD7, then drove down to the Gold Coast for a week with his wife.
Ron will drive back up to Conondale Saturday where he will expect to find this tank ready to bolt on to do the enduro track.

May be he is not that good a friend.

I only got the chance to start work on it today at lunch.
First I had to sand off all the stickers and smooth out all the rough bits.

Not to mention stone chips and previous repairs.

Nasty
And not much time to do a good job.

After the first sand I got to the tank with a scraper and removed all the loose flaking paint/gell coat.

Painting will be easy ::) - it's the repairs and cleaning (the filler neck) that's gunna take time. Good luck.

Yes Graeme you are so right.
The prep work always takes the most time.
But I only have two days so how hard can it be.

Now you will know Ron's Matadore if you went to CD6, It was parked in Don Newells stand.
It was the red and black Bultaco.
Attached is an image I took on the Monday after CD6 was over.
