100cc 2t Class
« on: June 07, 2010, 08:59:43 pm »
Given the quite reasonable numbers of RM100'S and yz100's sold between the mid 70's to the early 80's, is there any interest in creating a class for these bikes? i know a lot of RM's get raided for transmission bits for 125's (being the same..), but there seems to be still a lot around.

Its a reply to a different question, but this thread suggests that there's enthusiasm for racing 100s: http://ozvmx.com/community/index.php?topic=3350.0

I just wonder whether you'd get the numbers, as you're basically limiting it to two models of bikes. And I also wonder how many people would bother to line up with the earlier examples, which could limit it to only a few year's production of those two models of bike.

But I like the idea - it was a class back then, so why not now?

I remember the 100cc class was massive around the late seventies/ early eighties. I often wondered at the time why it existed given that 125's where about but I think that was when the big bikes/mini's were still split and it was the premier mini class.
Given that there were so many of them about at the time it's strange you dont see a lot of them for sale. I guess people think nobody'd be interested in them.
I'd love to race one (or a pre 85 80cc for that matter...) :)

100c MX ,Most common full size MXers to be scrapped at bike wreckers or tossed in landfills in the late 80s and through the 90s. Mostly been ratted for cross over parts for 125cc. Kids seemed to love to totally destroy them. You would really struggle to get a field of reasonable goers unfortunately.

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

i believe there'd be more call for the pre 75 , 100cc camelchaser class, heaps of bikes and parts, cheap as chips, you could take it as serious as you like or just do it for a bit of a laugh, the later 100's are too close to the 125's, it would be ho-hum in my opinion :D they were big in the states but a bit of a non event in my area

Long before the advent of the cheaparse Chinese minibikes, there was no better transport around the burbs for kids than 2-up on a flogged out 80 or 100cc motocross bike.

Yes it was here in the U.S.

Marty Tripes has a good thing going. http://www.martytripesvintage.com/MTs100WorksRevenge.html

I have a trick (but blown-up!) Super Rat for AHRMA 100 Sportsman, and I've heard 'net rumors of an attempt to add a Post Vintage class as well. I've also got a 1980 RM100 in the back of the shop....

Here we go again.....the 100 class is a great idea but after attempting to get our own slant on it up and running, no clubs took the bait.  http://ozvmx.com/community/index.php?topic=3350.0
Sadly, despite all of the forum hype, there are a couple of flaws in the deal. One, as I mentioned, no club or organisation has picked up on it. Two, there already too many classes in the full vintage program so in reality there's not a lot of room for a new class.
Perhaps if the proposed split of divisions for the Nats spreads to the club day there'll be room in the pre '75/78 division but until something drastic happens, the 100 class ain't a goer here.

Perhaps if a few 100s start turning up at a club day they could start the ball rolling by riding in with the 125s as a similtanious event? Like sometimes the ladies races have been run. Cheers wally

Yes.
Although the evo-legal YZ100s would get hammered by the RM100N/T.

My thoughts are that if there was enough interest, it could be a "feeder" class for vintage, where the only prerequesite be that its a 100cc, from MX100 to YZ100 all models, RM100A/B/C/N/T/X, and any sleeved down cr125m's ? I raced a RM100T when it was a current model, as i was too tall to ride a 80cc comfortably, and had a ball on it.
