Postage Through the Roof
« on: December 05, 2007, 03:50:17 pm »
Howdy, can anybody help with suggestions for getting small stuff out of the UK without using the Postal system ?   I'm trying to buy a set of bars from Sammy Miller Spares.  The bars are 18 quid and the postage is 25.    :'(  :'(         Cheers,  T250

Anything posted within the E.U is pricey, you should try getting stuff from the Netherlands. Your best bet is if someone in England on their way to Aus is willing to take them as "carry on luggage" TM Bill style.

I avoid UK for that very reason. Surely you can get a pair of bars through the US. I'd be looking for a Sammy Miller distributor in the US.

Expensive postage is a EU thing. I don't know why.

When I first started working on the Monty I made enquiries about getting parts from Spain thinking that it might be a cheap and bountiful scource of bits. But the price of postage makes it prohibative. Go figure.

I payed $85 USD ??? for postage of a YAMAHA MX SEAT from Canada, I questioned the price at the time as I have payed around $40 to $50 USD for seats from the US, was told thats the price, it's been over 6 weeks now, no sign of the seat, contacted seller, ask if he sent it AIR MAIL, replied it was sent surface mail >:(, also brought 4 other items from him a few weeks later on Evilbay, this time I was only charged $18.50 US for postage which I thought was cheap, so I think he knows he stuffed up on the postage of seat, and gave me cheap postage for my other stuff, will just have to wait and see :-\

Here is another-DirtOver Stock DG silencer for an RM125 -postage $50US.Then a complete Pro-Circuit chamber from Don Ruffin off Mark's Swapmeet for $45.20US postage-it turned up sooner and the box for chambers,as you know are big and bulky ,but light. The DOS people are freight gougers of the the highest order in my opinion.

DOS did a complete pipe for me for $60US.  US postage rates have gone through the roof and Canada is always more expensive than them.  But what is annoying is I wanted a footpeg stub from the US - $25 to post he said so I gave it a miss - bought some stuff from NW Vintage Cycle parts which was more weight and volume than a footpeg and it was $12 from them.

Some of them rort the already expensive system I think?

Postage makes me scratch my head too. Item (1) One Microfiche of SL70 from USA US$ 2.50 postage very fair  :).
Item (2) one microfiche (different seller) of SL125  (from USA US$ 26!!!! plus US$ 17 !!! handling !!!! Piss off they got told and a compliant to eBay  had the bastards suspended from selling.
Item (3) Petrol tank I sent to Townsville  QLD costs me $49.00 same fella posts one back to me in larger heavier parcel and gets charged $14.80 ???? Sorry Local PO ( now privately run like a lot of Rural POs) >:(you have lost my business mate!
Item (4) NOS Honda piston and ring complete with full gasket kit from Vietnam costs me $ 17.60 :) which includes the $4.00 postage!!!!!, arrives and it is indeed the real thing!!  A standard letter posted to a mate in Vietnam costs me $4.20????  Got heaps more but ................ ::)
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.
