Glenn Scott one to watch
« on: March 01, 2010, 11:40:33 pm »
Just finished watching this on ABC Australian Story what a fantastic heart warming story of  Three orphans banding together to take on the world.
Introduced by world motor cycle champion Mick Doohan
As a little boy, Glenn Scott dreamed of becoming a motorcycle champion… just like his heroes Mick Doohan and Casey Stoner.

Bikes were a family obsession but it was a passion that led to tragedy six years ago when Glenn's parents were killed during a road trip on their motorbike.Denis & Denise were the kind of hardworking, generous people who give the motorcycling community a good name. They were actively involved in both dirt track & road racing and will be sadly, sadly missed by friends old & new.

Their values live on in their children Greg, Candy & Glenn, three amazing people whose strength & grace are an inspiration to everyone who knows them.

Glenn was only twelve at the time. His teenage siblings took over the tasks of raising the baby of the family and running their parents' nursery business near Sydney.

To the astonishment of many, the Scott kids also continued to race motor bikes.

Glenn won the Australian 125 championship and by the age of sixteen he was competing internationally.

Then, with family funds threatening to run dry, eighteen year old Glenn lined up in Spain for the most important race of his life…....two years of hard slog and work,No Australians interested in putting up 250k for our future RR kids on the Europe scene.

Best Wish's for the coming Superbike series in Aust Glen Scott.  :P
Apparently there is also a Junior MX NSW meet every year for there mum and dad- Denis and Denise.  8)
cheers

This would have had to have been one of the greatest advertisements for motorcycle racing ever.It did give a good insight to what's required to compete at a National championship level too. Work all week, be up late preparing bikes, then travel a great distance, race all weekend and then drive home ready for work on monday.
The story itself was very well presented and didn't sensationalise the whole thing, which goes to show the quality journalism in Australia still has a heartbeat.
Also wasa good insight into the big time Spanish scene, as Greg stated "was no mum's and dad's with bikes on trailers, it was just semi's and transporters all lined up" ;D
Well worth catching on line WATCH OVER ME
Alison did you see Col Stoner in the background ?

It was costing Glens sister and brother 250k a year to keep Glen there, they worked their butts off ,whilst giving up there own hobbies-that's true giving, now he is home and so much more better for the experience.Glad our son watched it. :P
A shame our Hero's just don't get the coverage they should receive  :'(  ......though Australia has taken 200 years to populate this land and her population's going to double that in just under 40 years time, bring on the OZ bike scene with RV's.  :o  :P   ;D

A quick flick onto SBS TVE Spanish News you will get an idea of just how big motorcycle racing is in Spain. The sport news comes just after the headlines, first up is soccer which they talk to the coach, captain, players fans and the bloke that sweeps the stands(even in the off season) and then it's straight into motorcycle racing, trials receives massive coverage, then we go to mx and road racing. Then a bit on F1 and mainly Fernado Alonso and that's about it for sport. Seems motorcycle racing is Spain's summer sport with no competition. With that kind of exposure no wonder Spainish kids have a leg up and Spainish companies back them to the hilt.
What is always a bit disappointing with Australian riders in Europe is they never seem take the time to learn a little of the language. If young Glen spoke reasonable Spanish he would be very marketable in Spain.
