Old Racers (the website for older racers)
« on: February 03, 2010, 08:16:23 pm »
OzVMX is the place to talk vintage MX, but where do you go if you still actively race and are Over 40? Somewhere you can talk to like minded people who are racing into their more *ahem* advanced years?

Well, wonder no more. Old Racer is the place for you. Share the news, gossip, tips for flogging the young pups and techniques for staying fit and racing into decrepitude... Check it out now.

Interesting.. I thought that's what this forum was meant to be but lately it's anything but!
Hardly any Vintage Motocross talk on here unless it's bashing a track or the rulebook.
Sounds good so i joined up, could be the new place to hangout..

Welll... Old Racer is aimed at guys riding modern bikes. MX, enduro, trials, trail, dirt track whatever.... So it's not intended to be about vintage. OzVMX is vintage. I am not even really aiming at the guys on OzVMX, but I am guessing some or many will also race modern bikes too.

So, if you are a vintage racer, you're welcome at Old Racer. But I am not trying to dilute the flavour of OzVMX, rather I am wanting to support the older guy who loves his contemporary racing. And by the way, that's racing. I am not trying to cater for trailriders or social riding...

Sadly, others have done that for you Graeme.

How are you going to stop young guys from getting on this new sight? They'll be pretending that they're cranky, middle-aged men with receding hair-lines and a distancing memory of just how quick they really are.

Having re-read the last paragraph, that probably won't be a problem.

I wrote the above immediately prior to going to bed last night after reflecting that a lot of the variety and spark seems to have taken leave from the forum. While laying in bed , during that hazy period before I dropped off I realise that what I'd posted had the potential to start another shit fight so I made the mental note to pull the post off when I got up in the morning. Unfortunately Ross got in earlier than me and made my withdrawl impossible. It wasn't mean't to incite any argument or to criticise anyone, it was merely a passing thought as I went to bed after a really crap last few days. Perhaps its more a reflection of me than the forum.

Clubman it is for now,
i was reminded daily in the first year of my apprenticeship what an expert was. Something along the lines of X is the unknown quantity and spurt is a drip under pressure so from that knowledge i try not to use the word expert.  ;)

No worries Firko. The forum has certainly changed (or evolved), but I guess so too has the scene in general in some ways. 'Old Racer' came about because my situation has changed. I can't really travel too much these days due to circumstances so getting to a vintage meet is a rare thing. Plus the ACT club dropped its old bikes class due to lack of interest. So my riding now is mostly on a modern bike, and I wanted to create a site for older guys riding modern bikes...

That said I still love my vintage and do hope this year to make it to the Canowindra Classic or whatever it's called, CD7 and maybe Double the Dirt in Brisbane. I will keep OzVMX going as the new ning website makes it so easy for me, and it's fun to watch how things move along.

Pre '90 is inevitable mick.. and by the way they are not a modern bike, they're 20 years old.
Try telling a young guy he needs to race an '89 CR250 instead of his 2010 CRF250.
