KX125 hagon track master
« on: February 02, 2010, 06:20:27 pm »
Just got home a new bike to the collection a Hagon KX125 trackmaster slider FRAME# KX125 00002, I got to wonder who might have been the rider as I dont guess it was bought for a weekend play in the bush - its been a racer. Someone might know who once belonged to it. Whats interesting is it has KE125 top ends and KX bottom and came with 2 engine sets like this so must have been the ticket back then.
Anyone got any clues on it?

Dave,

Great find!

There's a pic in an old VMX (I think in the article on Stephen Gall) that shows a KX125 in a slider frame, #74 or 75 which IIRC were Brisk Sales race nos (Tom Gibson etc). Again, IIRC it had the outercarb cover replaced no doubt to improve breathing &/or allow a bigger carb. I'll see if I can find the Issue #/pic.

Strange about the KE top end. Do they appear to be ported?
KE ran unbridged exh port & steel liner I think, which may have been the reasons.

Good find Kimosabe......Are you gonna ride it at the Nats Dave? I'm bringing my Elstar Maico so we should have an "old fat guy on underpowered slider" class...Are you in Dave, what about you Jim?

From VMX #14 p39. #74 (Tom Gibson) is a KX125 slider.

The outer carb cover has been replaced by a larger one

Will take a picture and have my picture manager post it - by the way Mark, yes I will be at the Nats with at least 3 KXs, would like to think that I would have the slider there but would 100% for sure if your going to ride Mark..........

The 74 bike looks exactly like what I have, will forward the pix, it came with a ported KX 125 barrel (stuffed) no carb cover but the rest looks the business but maybe not as the bike I have has a KX hub laced to a Speedway front rim. Photo will tell the story.

Below is Daves little KX 125/Hagon which is a sweet little bike. The frame's not like any Hagon I've seen although the forks and tank are most definitely Hagon. The swingarm appears to be from a production bike, (perhaps a KX125?). The front hub appears to be an REH and the rear seems to be a stocker KE or KX wheel. The Trackmaster sticker on the tank is from a shop in the UK that sold grass track and speedway accessories. Maybe they made their own frames as well, it's possible. They've nothing to do with the USA Trackmaster.

It is not a HAGON.Brisk Sales at Buranda,Brisbane ,ere the official Queensland distributors for Kawasaki.General Manager Mr John Taylor had too many superseded KX125'S and KX250'S sitting on the showroom floor and in crates in the warehouse. He contracted a Mr Jim Cook ,a former dirt track racer and 'engineer' to construct a number of slider frames to fit the engine, the standard mx wheels, pipes and side covers out of the superseded a2 and a3 Kawasaki MX bikes. The frames have been known as "COOKIE FRAMES" ,though Brisk Sales named them 'TRACKMASTER'.The decal on the tank was placed on there by the aurthor.QLD Number one rider Tom Gibson was handed a 250 and 125 slider .His bikes were fitted with traditional slider rims ,19 rear and 23 front. At one stage a KX400 slider was made for him to compete against the JAPS,JAWAS AND COLES.He abandoned that after a few rides and rode a JAWA COOK frame. The easiest way to tell these are not any other brand is that the frame tubes continue way under the motor providing a more study less flex unit .Hello . .my name is Carl Wilmott and I am proud to say my uncle built those 'Trackmaster/cook ' sliders which TOM GIBSON WON MULTIPLE state and national titles on.I got to work at Brisks for over 6 years.

Great stuff, Carl, a lot of history there and it goes to show Aussies are an ingenious lot , aren't they ? . I only saw Tom ride twice , once at Kempsey and once at Cowra , he was very impressive to watch and did some things with those Kwakas that were unbelievable !!
He wore an oversize sombrero in the pits , as I remember or was it a very large straw number ??
