Just found this one and couldn't resist. Anyone that was at the Maryborough track on the 21/02/82 will never forget Simon Wigg. He came down the back straight travelling at 85+mph into a "stop" corner. At no time did he even consider touching the brakes, just back one gear and sideways "a mile" from the corner. Nearing the apex of the corner he would stand it up and power out. Lap after lap. I have watched a lot of motorcycle racing in all disciplines over the years and this still stands out as one of the great demonstrations of skill bravery and control that I have ever witnessed.

With archiving these pics and lots more that are "out there" we need a person experienced in journalism or such, to start  an 'open ended' catalogue of OZ dirt track, short circuit and speedway photographs plus pics of OZ riders on dirt overseas.

I feel the Australian National Museum would be the best place to find assistance for the project and ultimatly a home for the catalogue.
If the right contact is made perhaps Graeme could make the whole of this thread available to kick it off.
cheers pancho.

Nice Guy too - I woke up one day and was loading up the bikes and he walked over from the house across the road he had just bought. Had a great talk but soon after he became very ill - RIP Mr Wigg.

Yep, Wiggy was on fire that day at Maryborough. I have a horrible fuzzy 8mm movie I took of a race that day, it's on the Aussie Dirt Track site I think. I loved the way he threw her sideways so far out from the corner!

Agreed, Wiggy was one of the best both on & off the track, always with that beaming smile.

Both Simon and Julian were great guys to be around
Especially when they were around Warren Fraser
