Believe me that Kiwi was very fast when he rode out here. The 3.3klm track would have been grouse.

Something of an enigma, Ivan Miller certainly had the goods on his day. At that time, he'd have been riding the 360 Bultaco for Comerfords. Wasn't 39 Vaughan Semmens an Aussie ? And , leave it to the poms for metric conversion : 1 1/4 miles is 2kn, 2 miles is 3.2 km etc, sigh...and a great pic of Mikkola and Roger both looking shot after yet another clash of the titans : thanks Stan.  ;)
Nostalgia's not what it used to be....

I don't know if Vaughan Semmens is an Aussie, I thought he was an Englishman. It is a good photo of Heikki Mikkola, Roger DeCoster and Ake Jonsson. But I don't know where it was taken as it appeared in the Hawkstone program.

I know photos do lie, but I've never seen Heikki look more knackered.  :D
Thanks again for this stuff, Stan.

Ivan miller rode for lyall o`brien on a 360 montesa in 1969, the meeting at the time was pakenham, lyall had a pocket of rear wheel rubber grommets, and Ivan miller keeped chewing them out of the rear wheel, and lyall was having trouble keeping up with it., very fast, he was the fastest rider that came out of NZ. Riders like Gary floods Trevor , Fisher, any more couldn`t catch him.

Gday Dot, yeah Miller was very quick I raced him at Wonthaggi, Wallan (I think) South Australia and the Tasmanian Aussi Titles. But the thing that sticks in my mind was in Tassie after the races finished a rental truck backed into the middle of the pits, the back opened and girls with lots of champane got out. All organised by Ivan Miller.

Regards Stan.

I don't think he was a show pony, just a very fast dedicated rider who liked to have a bit of fun after the races.

Ivan Miller raced at manjimup in 1971 with Jimmy Aird and Randy Owens, was a great event and he was a great showman.  Was a great pleasure getting to race on the same track as them.  Taught the WA boys how to cross a bike up over a jump, they'd never seen it before
1973 Rickman Zundapp Metisse, to rebuild
1979 Husqvarna WR250
1974 Husqvarna MAG CR250
