That water tank/bottle come number plate is either after market (Petty Preston??) or maybe GYT.

An interesting and rare MX/desert racing artifact. Is someone gonna buy it for the Ozvmx 'oddball' resto - the one with plastic levers, hex grips, cable linked brake et al? ;) ;D.

its an evil OEM Yamaha 1980 TT250G front numberplate /water bottle.

i know because i had one when i was 17. they were marketed as a fun bike as they had no lights and were not adr compliant and had very average suspension.

Just briefly seen in this clip
http://ausvmx.ning.com/video/stunt-monos-in-1981

the next model the water bottle was replaced with headlight.

certainly a weird thing.

Do you remember there was an aftermarket water bottle made to clip over the cross bar ::) :P. The best place for an additional kg of weight  ::).

I guess all you had to do was take the breather hose off the tank cap and there was your straw ;D
