I was initially intrigued when I read the subject heading until I saw the persons name and then I wasn't at all surprised. Several years ago it was suggested to me, very strongly, to have no dealings with him what so ever. I had not heard that he had been pegged nearly 12 months ago but it was only a matter of time.

I can't believe the guy did what he did and figured he could get away with it. I knew of his workings 10 years ago and if I knew of it so did about half a million others..just beats me why the police took so many 'years' to pounce :-\

Notice ol Jack Daniels haven't been advertising for about the same time, family tie up there with the wife, bet the father inlaw dont run JD Australia anymore (Jack Daniel's "where" the main sponser ;D of the team) Apparantly he's a marked man with all the information he has on other people involved with his low life scumbag going's on. This is where I agree with the Yank's when they dish out 99 year sentences and none of this parole bullshit!!!

Though, one must always ask who the dumb ones are-the sellers or the buyers??
I don't condone what he has allegedly done for one second, but if there was no market he would never prosper. And the folks selling him parts and cars must also have wondered where he got the cash too.

We've got a mate who runs a doorslammer/blown outlaw (when he can afford it) who tells us that the entire drag racing cummunity, from the racers through to the top officials, knew that Brett Stevens was "allegedly" dodgy but turned a blind eye because he was "putting on a show".

Above his obvious "alleged" crimes, Stevens is guilty of being a lair. Rather than race just one car or bike his ego forced him to have three door slammers, a funny car for the missus, a burnout car, two top fuel bikes and two pro stock v rods and probably more that I can't think of. If he didn't want to draw attention to himself you'd think he'd go low key and limit the race tackle to one car or one bike. Anybody who saw his huge set up at the races would have to ask the question:Where, the f**k does the money come from"? He's done more harm to drag racing and motorsport in general than can be imagined. The repurcussions will be felt for years.

It might be advisable to insert the word 'allegedly' [frequently] in any subsequent posts…   ;D

Has he really done that much damage?

The world of modified cars has always had high-profile-but-obviously-shady characters, and occasionally one (or a group) of them gets busted. Nobody seems surprised when it happens, and the world keeps spinning.

Admittedly, he played the game with even less care than most, but meh....

There's been a bit the press about the potential sponsors that were frightened off after the Jack Daniels "problem". Two big hitters in Top Fuel were about to sign with a major brewery but the brewery pulled the plug at the last minute citing "a review of current circumstances and the direction their sponsorship should go". Now I'm cynical enough to think that they may have used that reason instead of the more likely downturn in business due to the recession. Whatever the real reason, when you speak with people chasing motorsport sponsorship money they'll tell you that a few doors have closed since the Stevens 'scandal'. Life will go on like you say Nathan, footballers behaving badly have affected sponsorships at football clubs so there's no doubt the same result is possible with potential motorsports sponsors.

…footballers behaving badly have affected sponsorships at football clubs,

True, but they are bloody funny. The things they can do with a 'turd' never ceases to amaze me. Damn creative those footballers!!

Damn that makes me happy. For too long (as everyone else has "allegedly" alluded to) this crappola has been under everyone's noses with no-one doing anything about it. Now all we need to see is that justice prevails and the piece of whale poo gets what's coming to him ( hopefully a jail cell with Bubba) not Stewart!

Everyone in the drag racing fraternity just turned a blind eye to it, as Firko has stated- it was common knowledge  .....But he was a draw card to most events so the blinkers were put on. ::)
Personaly I couldn't give 2 flying forks ......more people die from bozz & cigs, remember they are legal because our Government collects taxs .....in my eyes they are drugs also.

nobody may have wondered where the money came from EML for the simple reason Brett ran a 'large' fleet of, very nicely painted in JD theme, modern tippers. Others should have been more curious as to how he could afford so many trucks moreso than how he could afford drag racing, his trucking company earned him loads of $ so many did not question a thing ;)
