first time trailriding
« on: January 11, 2010, 09:42:30 am »
Funny that this section should just appear in the forum, I seriously went for my first ever trailride on the weekend. I basically puttered around a paddock when I got my first bike and then went onto MX pretty much straight away, rode that for a couple of years and then had twenty years off ;D

I went up to a place called Killarney here in QLD with the PE175, and rode around single track and along the rabbit proof fence with a heap of guys with KTM's and the like. Needless to say the PE got a few looks and was slightly underpowered by comparison ;D Having said that, it was still there at the end of the day. Not too good on the snotty hillclimbs though. Especially not with my fat arse on it.

So a late model KDX200/250 or similar is on the shopping list. I'd also been thinking XR400 but can't make up my mind.

I'm with you mainline! I enjoy trail riding more than most other types of riding these days.  Dealing with constantly changing track conditions and trying to read the terrain is the type of challenge I enjoy.
Always enjoyed that more than MX, so I'm glad to see this section up. Thanks Graeme!

I was addicted to the adrenalin rush cross country racing gave me for a while there. No traffic coming the opposite way but still scary as shit hammering over a rise hoping the track kept going straight over the other side.  :o

I do enjoy trail riding going your on pace being from turtle pace to flat out.

I would like to have a go at mx though I havent had a crack at it I have only ridden trail so I am hoping to have a go at VMX sooner than later but this year I would like to get to more vinduro's as well.

The vinduro's seem to be the go you pay the entry fee and then do as many laps as you like and you can stop at any time to watch talk have lunch it is just good fun. :)

yep, thanks Graeme. Trail riding and play racing are my preference also. I want to do a lot more social rides this year but probably not so many until later in the year with the onset of the cooler months. Nothing like heading out at sparrowfart with a full tank and not returning until it's all but empty ;D ..usually about an hour or so later if I'm on the guts 400 ::) the TSX250 is now my preferred traily..and for something different, it's quiet! :P ;)

I thought you sold the 250X, Doc.
I had one for a while in '89. I only bought it because the local shop lent it to me and I left it parked at a mates place and his dog ate the chain guard, mudguard extender and seat cover off it!!  ::)

I trail rode my nephews TS200X at Emu creek and chased a younger guy on his near new Husky 250 enduro through the hills-I think he was quiet surprised to see me at the end - still tagged on his tail.
My son has a different view of it after learning on his XR200 and then stepping onto the 2stroker on the greasy hills. had fun on th mx but.

nah I still have the TSX Tony, no matter how much I threaten to sell it just never happens :D last excuse I sold myself on was 'I need to have at least 1 bike that's road registerable' I'm so gullible ::)
