MR50 Info needed
« on: December 29, 2009, 10:08:51 am »
Having a hard time getting information for a MR that I've stripped down.
On the headstock theres a small stamped number with the date it was built,it reads 74121.I assume this would read 21.1.74.Is that right to begin with?Otherwise it would be 1.12.74.
Now when exactly were these manufactured?
Were they made in 1973 and released as 1974 models, etc?
If the one I have was built in early 1974,would it be considered the next years model,or a 1974 model?Assuming I've read the date correctly that is.
Any help at all much appreciated.

                                              Cheers,Mark.
I used to drink a lot.
I still do,but I used to,too.

The MR50 came out as '74 and '75 models.. the red one was a '74 and the silver with red stripe was the '75. Don't think they were built in '73.
I don't know about the number stamped on the headstock, honda usually had a date stamp on a plate riveted to the headstock such as 1/74 for the date of manufacture.

Thanks for that Johnny.Mine is the Daytona orange colour,so its definately 1974.
Mine doesn't have a plate it just has the numbers.Ummm,I'll go have a quick peek.
Ok,its on the left hand side,on the supporting piece thats welded to the frame, and headstock.and its stamped.
I'm a frigging numbat,it actually reads 740121.Not 74121.Tossil I am.
So 21/01/74,she started at the frame stage.
I'll take some pics and try post them here.

never had id tags, pre plate days,no many mx bikes ever had plates

the date stamp should be under the tank as well,
the bike was usually assembled in  between the 2 dates

The '73, '74' '75 Elsinores had tags on the frame with date stamps.

JohnnyO,does that mean tags were on the 50s model?Or just on Elsinores in general?

Mark i'm not sure about the MR50 but they were on the 125 & 250. I don't have my MR50 close by to have a look at it.
