Best guess please
« on: December 21, 2009, 09:33:26 pm »
Hi all
Best guess at what it might be worth topic.
1979 bultaco trials bike with 1,000 klms on clock. Have seen it running, starts easy and appears to be all there to a person (me) that has no idea what is correct or not. Appears to be in very good condition.
What do you guys think would be a fair price for it? Don't want to rip a friend off.
Is there any interest in this bike out there?

Ed

Yes, there would be good interest. Is a popular bike amongst both riders and collectors.
If it really is 1979 model it should have an alloy bashplate and no frame tubes under the motor, blue frame, blue plastic tank and mudguards and blue fibreglass side covers. Black motor and black fork sliders.
238cc is M198A, 325cc is M199A
It runs $1000+
Nothing missing $1500+
Doesn't need major work $2000+
Ready to ride in competition (new competition tyres/new competition shockies/new brakes/new cables/etc) $3000+

I will back up all of the above, a guy asked if I was interested in selling my 1978 Model 199 Sherpa 350, backed up with an offer of $2000 at the 2008 SA trials championship.

Feetupfun, you left of an important criteria off the list;

Brakes that work - $4000+

Why do things the easy way, when with a bit of effort you can really make it difficult for yourself!!

Thanks All
Have passed all of the replies onto the owner for him to consider. Guess he will let me know or come on here himself when he decides what to do.
Items are in the Hunter Valley, NSW near Singleton.

Yes that is pretty important on a Bultaco. Having the brake drums relined is usually an expensive part of a rebuild for the Bultaco models with the plated drums. I'm in the process of rebuilding a Sherpa T M198 and it needed new spokes for both wheels as well as the drum relining on both wheels. Just those items came to nearly $900.
